Mendi I fue uno de los delanteros más destacados en las décadas de los años 70 y 80. Junto a su hermano Mendi II, ambos provenientes de una familia de pelotaris, los Echeverria, y su padre, Jesús. Destacó en Miami y en Hartford así como en distintos frontones a lo largo del mundo. En la actualidad tiene 73 año y con Javier Mendizabal, Mendi I, hemos charlado largo y tendido.
