[…] ANZ economist Sophia Angala says recent petrol price rises showed up in the latest ANZ Roy Morgan Australian Consumer Confidences. Economic conditions recorded a weakening over in recent weeks. This could be reflective of the recent re-escalation of conflict in the Middle East, which has led to rises in oil prices. More locally, we have also seen rises in petrol prices in recent weeks as well. And that could all be weighing on confidence and also keeping inflation expectations higher as well. As of 4am Sydney Melbourne time, West Texas Intermediate futures were down 2.9% at $89.73 US a barrel, while Brent was down 1.7% at $98.63 US a barrel. […]
