How scientists figure out the past
<p>In this episode I interview <a href="https://twitter.com/Dhiegocs">Dhiego Silva</a>, a paleontology PhD candidate from Brazil. Dhiego studies microfossils of the Itararé Group in the Panará Basin in Brazil to understand what the environments of the past were like through the microfauna and the characteristics of the microorganisms that once lived there. Through my conversation with him, I was able to make sense of all this jargon and gain a better understanding of the process paleontologists use to help create a window to the past. One important lesson was that paleontology is not just dinosaurs, there are so many interesting and powerful organisms to study to better understand what the world looked like in the distant past. </p>

<p>In this episode I interview <a href="https://twitter.com/JAGH_BIO">Jamie Hamilton</a>, a PhD Candidate at Emory University who is studying how fat cells help cancer cells survive and thrive in the face of chemotherapy treatment. Jamie did a fantastic job explaining the basic biology of cancer development, he answered questions from the audience and helped debunk a number of prevalent myths about cancer. </p> <p>More about Jamie: Jamie Hamilton, PhD Candidate, studies the relationship between obesity, leukemia and chemotherapy. He is passionate about making science accessible to all communities, through both the media and direct outreach programs. He believes it is the responsibility of good scientist to become great science communicators.</p> <p> </p>
