A Syos rendez-vous : Music Business with Neal Sugarman
<p>For this 4th episode of the second season of Syos rendez-vous: the podcast for curious musicians, we are inviting <a href="https://www.dapkings.com/neal-sugarman">Neal Sugerman</a>, musician and co-founder of a music label.<br> <br> Neal Sugarman is the tenor saxophone player in the Dap-Kings band and a co-owner of Daptone Records with Gabriel Roth founded in 2001. Neal also has a Soul jazz project called The Sugarman 3, a band that predates SJDK and was a major impetus for Neal and Gabe Roth (Bosco Mann) to start Daptone Records together. Dap-Dippin’ and The Sugarman 3’s Pure Cane Sugar were the label’s first and second LP releases and they were shipped from Neal’s kitchen table.</p> <p>Most aspiring professional musicians dream of their music being signed by a great record label. But what is a label? How does it work? What are the differences between major and independent label records?
