Episode 24 - Toni The Blue Rose a.k.a. "Queen Fedora"
My next guest is the one and only, Toni Rose!! She is a mother. A daughter. A sister. An auntie. A poet. A survivor. She has been writing poetry since she was journaling in middle school. Trigger warning: This text and episode will feature in-depth conversation and poetry involving mental health, domestic and sexual abuse. Being a survivor of these traumas, her healing has come through in many ways but primarily through art. With collaboration from fellow poet, Pat Rossi, this healing was brought to light in The Amazing Blue Rose WoMen Poetry Showcase. Poets, dancers, singers, rappers and others have come together for many years throughout New England in support of awareness and healing from these traumatic realities. It has come so far that it is in the works for being even more healing in more creative ways than before as a non-profit. We talk about how this all came about, what it exactly is and how these experiences have helped shape her calling in this life. We also hear about how she recently broke her first ever bone, her ankle, and some actual poems from her first book, "Hypervigilante". Episode 23 - "Art Collins"
My next guest is the one and only, Art Collins!! Community organizer. Teacher. Rapper. Slammer. MC. A poet at heart, he's been involved in poetry for over twenty years. Influenced by Rakim, Wu-Tang Clan, Ghostface Killah and Scarface, he started writing and performing in his teen years. He's been featured at events such as Lizard Lounge Poetry Slam, Afrocentrics, Verbalization and Art Is Life Itself to name a few. We talk about Twisted Angles, SOLAR Panel, and about what art means to us. He blesses the mic with a performance of a classic piece, "Naturalistic Linguistics". We are also blessed with a surprise appearance (and performance in the Bonus Segment so stay tuned after Art's session) by Episode 21's Cole Rodriguez. My next guest is none other than, Cheesemonger Marty!! He is the son of an artist and the son of an immigrant. He's been in the cheese industry for twenty-five years. He has fond memories of his father doing many different projects for many different people. He remembers being surrounded by paintings. We dive into what he remembers about his father's creative outlets and how they all tie into his own outlets.
