7 Books, 7 Shifts: Transformative Practices from Our Season’s Readings

Season 3 of Armando Bochinche comes to a close with a special episode recorded entirely in English. Because this conversation was originally presented at a language conference, we wanted to make it accessible to all language educators, regardless of the language they teach.

In Episode #8, "7 Books, 7 Shifts: Transformative Practices from Our Season's Readings," we reflect on the seven books that shaped our learning throughout the season and share one key takeaway from each that has informed—and transformed—our pedagogical practices as language teachers on our decolonizing journey.

This season's readings include How to Be an Antiracist, Warrior Princesses Strike Back, Yellowface, For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts, Grading for Equity, The Anxious Generation, and Re-storying Education. Each episode explores the ideas from one of these books and examines how they connect to language teaching, equity, identity, and decolonizing our classrooms.

If you speak Spanish, we invite you to listen to the entire season of Armando Bochinche. Read the books alongside us and join the conversations as we unpack their implications for language education and reflect on how they can transform our teaching practices.

If you do not speak Spanish, we encourage you to begin with this final episode. Since all of the books are available in English, you can still engage deeply with the ideas and use them as a starting point for your own journey toward more equitable, culturally responsive, and decolonized language classrooms.

Libro invitado: HOW TO BE AN ANTIRACIST by Ibram X. Kendi
