<p>On this episode of The Outsiders had the fortune of getting to speak with comedian Erick Garcia. Erick has been a mainstay of the Vietnam comedy scene for the past 6 years, first in Hanoi, and for the past year in Saigon. We talked about Erick navigating having grown up "between worlds" as the son of Mexican immigrants who later went onto pursue academia and of course standup comedy. Of course, we also talked about what it means to be an "outsider" and how that informs the way that Erick performs his art and navigates his life. <p>On our first episode of The Outsiders we interview comedian/visual artist Vu Minh Tu! We went deep with this one discussing Covid-19 and the recent lockdowns in Vietnam, the origins of Tu's and JK's friendship, Tu's upbringing, schooling and childhood, laissez faire parenting, Tu cursing like she was possessed as a small child, the gift of truancy, authenticity, suicidal failures, the nature of self, drugs, existing in a body, confrontation through comedy, Vietnamese women and the ways they defy stereotypes of Asian women, Tu's vaginal health, the freedom that comes with leaving some things undefined, finding our commonalities, secret identities, finding the funny in common folks, and of course what it is to be an Outsider and how she navigates life as one!<br> <br> (Intro and outro Music by Ace of Sabres)</p>
