Each One, Reach One. Each One, Teach One.

In this month’s episode we discuss Shaka King’s film Judas and the Black Messiah and my mother’s involvement with the Black Panther Party in Chicago during the late 1960s. Her college journey began at North Central College in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, IL then she transferred to Roosevelt University. We talk about popular misconceptions about the Black Panther Party, how the FBI’s Counterintelligence Program (COINTELPRO) lead to deaths of BPP leaders, and the fact that besides Mario Van Peeble’s 1996 film Panther Hollywood has paid little attention to these stories. I discuss an on-going question I’ve had about how these conversations happen in all white spaces and mom offers some suggestions.
