Songwriter Ray Miner
In this episode, I’m talking with songwriter and children’s book author, Ray Miner, who DOES NOT live in Astoria. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Brie, this is the ASTORIA PODCAST, what the hell are you doing?” So let me explain. If it wasn’t for Ray, this Podcast probably wouldn’t exist. You see, many years ago, long before I met my husband and moved to Astoria, Ray hired me to record some of his original Christmas songs. While I had sung in bars and coffee shops I had never set foot in a real recording studio before and it changed my life. That experience made me fall in LOVE with the recording process and I started recording classes with Mark Rubel, who was the audio engineer for our album. Four years later, when I moved to New York and started working in film, it was my love of audio that helped me shine in the workplace. All this has led me here, making the Astoria Podcast where I get to share meaningful stories with you. Around this time of year, I think about the people in my life who may not know how much they impacted my journey and I’m trying to do better about letting those people know how special they are to me. Ray is definitely one of those people. In this episode, you’ll hear me and Ray talk about making a Christmas album together and how music transcends generational boundaries. I hope you enjoy listening in while I chat with a very dear friend and enjoy this sneak peek into my past life. In this episode, we discuss falling in love with our spouses, good food, and our mothers. She and her husband Powell produce the Kong Show which provides a space for diverse acts to perform throughout our neighborhood. Ella has a gift that lets people feel seen and included. She has so much love for this community and I’m excited to celebrate her and let you know more about this incredible woman.
