Extreme nature of four blue-excess dust-obscured galaxies revealed by optical spectroscopy
Extreme nature of four blue-excess dust-obscured galaxies revealed by optical spectroscopy by Akatoki Noboriguchi et al. on Wednesday 30 November We report optical spectroscopic observations of four blue-excess dust-obscured galaxies (BluDOGs) identified by Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam. BluDOGs are a sub-class of dust-obscured galaxies (DOGs, defined with the extremely red color $(i-[22])_{\rm AB} \geq 7.0$; Toba et al. 2015), showing a significant flux excess in the optical $g$- and $r$-bands over the power-law fits to the fluxes at the longer wavelengths. Noboriguchi et al. (2019) has suggested that BluDOGs may correspond to the blowing-out phase involved in a gas-rich major merger scenario. However the detailed properties of BluDOGs are not understood because of the lack of spectroscopic information. In this work, we carry out deep optical spectroscopic observations of four BluDOGs using Subaru/FOCAS and VLT/FORS2. The obtained spectra show broad emission lines with extremely large equivalent widths, and a blue wing in the CIV line profile. The redshifts are between 2.2 and 3.3. The averaged rest-frame equivalent widths of the CIV lines are $160\pm33$ $\mathrm{\mathring{A}}$, $\sim$7 times higher than the average of a typical type-1 quasar. The FWHMs of their velocity profiles are between 1990 and 4470 ${\rm km\ s^{-1}}$, and their asymmetric parameters are 0.05 and 0.25. Such strong CIV lines significantly affect the broad-band magnitudes, which is partly the origin of the blue excess seen in the spectral energy distribution of BluDOGs. Their estimated supermassive black hole masses are $1.1\times10^8 < M_{\rm BH}/M_\odot < 5.5 \times 10^8$. The inferred Eddington ratios of the BluDOGs are higher than 1 ($1.1< \lambda_{\rm Edd} < 3.8$), suggesting that the BluDOGs are in a rapidly evolving phase of supermassive black holes. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.16748v1

Peering into the Milky Way by FAST: III Magnetic fields in the Galactic halo and farther spiral arms revealed by the Faraday effect of faint pulsars
Peering into the Milky Way by FAST: III Magnetic fields in the Galactic halo and farther spiral arms revealed by the Faraday effect of faint pulsars by Jun Xu et al. on Wednesday 30 November The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) is the most sensitive radio telescope for pulsar observations. We make polarimetric measurements of a large number of faint and distant pulsars using the FAST. We present the new measurements of Faraday rotation for 134 faint pulsars in the Galactic halo. Significant improvements are also made for some basic pulsar parameters for 15 of them. We analyse the newly determined rotation measures (RMs) for the Galactic magnetic fields by using these 134 halo pulsars, together with previously available RMs for pulsars and extragalactic radio sources and also the newly determined RMs for another 311 faint pulsars which are either newly discovered in the project of the Galactic Plane Pulsar Snapshot (GPPS) survey or previously known pulsars without RMs. The RM tomographic analysis in the first Galactic quadrant gives roughly the same field strength of around 2~$\mu$G for the large-scale toroidal halo magnetic fields. The scale height of the halo magnetic fields is found to be at least 2.7$\pm$0.3~kpc. The RM differentiation of a large number of pulsars in the Galactic disk in the Galactic longitude range of $26^{\circ}<l<90^{\circ}$ gives evidence for the clockwise magnetic fields (viewed from the north Galactic pole) in two interarm regions inside the Scutum arm and between the Scutum and Sagittarius arm, and the clockwise fields in the Local-Perseus interarm region and field reversals in the Perseus arm and beyond. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.11302v2

On the sociology and hierarchy of voids: a study of seven CAVITY nearby galaxy voids and their dynamical CosmicFlows-3 environment
On the sociology and hierarchy of voids: a study of seven CAVITY nearby galaxy voids and their dynamical CosmicFlows-3 environment by H. M. Courtois et al. on Wednesday 30 November Context. The present study addresses a key question for our understanding of the relation between void galaxies and their environment: the relationship between luminous and dark matter in and around voids. Aims. To explore how empty of matter local Universe voids are, we study the full (dark+luminous) matter content of seven nearby cosmic voids that are fully contained within the CosmicFlows-3 volume. Methods. The cosmic voids matter density profiles are independently obtained using two different methods. They are built on one hand from the galaxy redshift space 2 points-correlation function and, on the other hand, using peculiar velocity gradients from the CosmicFlows-3 dataset. Results. The results are noticeable since when using the redshift survey, all voids show a radial positive gradient of galaxies, while based on the dynamical analysis, only three of these voids display a clear underdensity of matter in their center. Conclusions. It is the first time such a detailed observational analysis of voids is conducted, showing that void emptiness should be derived from dynamical information. Yet, from this limited study, the Hercules void is the best candidate for a local Universe pure "pristine volume" expanding in 3 directions with no dark matter located in that void. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.16388v1
