<p>In this week's episode, we chat with Leslie L. Garrison - Sr Outreach Coordinator for the Heliophysics Science Division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center to talk about her journey from New Orleans, HBCU’s and NASA.</p> <p>Bio for Leslie Garrison</p> <p>Leslie Lynette Garrison is a native of New Orleans, LA.</p> <p>Leslie matriculated at Grambling State University in Grambling, LA, Fall 1989 - Summer 1992 where she received a B.A. degree in Graphic Arts/Design and a minor in Public Relations. Leslie went on to receive a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern LA University and a certification in K-8 Mathematics Leadership and Administration from the VA Dept. of Education, University Cohorts Program.</p> <p>Leslie is currently the Sr Outreach Coordinator for the Heliophysics Division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. She is responsible for working with youth groups, the general public, educators and pre-service teachers across the United States and abroad. She is a member of the NASA Space Science Education Consortium (NSSEC) and the NASA Goddard Speakers Bureau. Leslie supports several NASA education groups such as the NASA Goddard STEAM Innovation Lab, the NASA Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) and NASA Headquarters Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP).</p> <p>Leslie has received numerous recognitions for her skilled and talented leadership in providing NASA unique STEAM educational professional development trainings. Prior to her career at NASA Goddard, Leslie worked as a K-8 Mathematics Administrator and Specialist in the state of Virginia, an elementary teacher and a Graphics Design Developer for an engineering firm. Leslie has received numerous awards and recognitions for her outstanding work as a professional development facilitator, pre-service teacher mentor and rising minority graphics designer.</p> <p>Leslie is a member of several service organizations which includes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and International Society of Education in Technology (ISTE).</p> <p>Leslie enjoys reading, drawing, hosting parties, and running. &nbsp;She has two quotes on her bedroom door and office desk that guide her thoughts about life and living, “It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” – Lena Horne <u>and</u> “Beautiful is how a woman lives. <p>In this week’s episode, We speak with Dr. Kelly about his thoughts about STEAM Sports. Dr. Kelly is one of the premier mines when it comes to STEAM and Sports. We wanted to get his thought about how STEAM has impacted sports and the things he is doing with his journey.</p> <p>Dr. Daniel Kelly joined the Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport at New York University’s School of Professional Studies (SPS) as the Academic Director of Graduate Programs and Clinical Assistant Professor, as of August 2019. Daniel was formerly the Faculty Director and Associate Professor of the Practice for the Sports Industry Management Program at Georgetown University (DC). Additionally, Daniel was the Associate Professor and Director of Sport Management at Wilmington College (Oh). Prior to that, he taught at DeSales University (Pa). Daniel holds a Ph.D. in Sport Management from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and an M.S. in Sport Studies, and B.S in Business Management from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.</p> <p>In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Kelly has consulted on strategic leadership and global business initiatives with FC Barcelona’s Barca Innovation Hub (Spain), River Plate University Institute (Argentina) and Superliga (Argentina). Also, Daniel served as the academic lead for the Josoor Institute’s (Qatar) Football and Sport Management diploma program in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Through our guests, we will highlight ambassadors in STEAM and Sports, provide dialogue on what it takes to thrive in these industries, provide access to opportunities year-round, and help all of our listeners understand why diversity matters.</p> <p>GARRETT OSUMAH, FOUNDER &amp; EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR</p> <p>Garrett Osumah serves as Executive Director and oversees all aspects of the organization, including the development of youth programs, fundraising, corporate partnerships, and work with donors, volunteers, and board members. Garrett credits the guidance and mentoring received through his own involvement in youth athletics for his own personal development which sparked his passion for working with at-risk youth. Since founding Athletes Without Borders in 2012, Garrett has worked tirelessly to create programs that empower youth to use athletics as a vehicle to reach their full potential. Garrett has led Marketing and Branding efforts in the past for EMC and TD Bank Financial Group. In 2009, Garrett founded the sports management company Precision Sports Management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College. He also holds an MBA in Strategic Marketing and International Finance From Northeastern University and a Masters in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University.</p> <p>KANYE L. GARDNER, CO-HOST, FOUNDER – THE ONE BIG VILLAGE, LLC&nbsp;</p> <p>Kanye L. Gardner is a forward-thinking and purpose-driven Supply Chain Management and Organizational Development Specialist with 20 years of experience. He is currently the Director of Continuous Quality Improvement for Office of Assessment, Accreditation &amp; Continuous Quality Improvement Wayne State University School of Medicine. Kanye has a true understanding of the student experience not only as a former student-athlete but as a person being born, raised, and educated in Detroit. In addition to Kanye’s professional background, he has been coaching high school football since 2002. He has led mentor and leadership programs at Penske and Ryder. Currently, he works with The Network – WSU Faculty and Administration-led – Student Mentorship Program. Also, WSU PwC MPREP Scholars – WSU School of Business Mentorship program. Finally, he volunteers as a member of several non-profit boards and community engagement organizations. &nbsp;He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Logistics from Wayne State University. He also holds an MBA in Organizational Development and Leadership from Wayne State University.
