Alaa al Aswany (geb. 1957) im Gespräch mit Christoph Burgmer. Der gelernte Zahnarzt und weltweit übersetzte ägyptische Schriftsteller Alaa al Aswany ist einer der Mitbegründer von ”al Kifahi”, einer Protestbewegung die 2011 zum Sturz des ägyptischen Diktators Hosny Mubarak maßgeblich beitrug. Die gescheiterte ägyptische Demokratiebewegung mündete in eine Militärdikdatur ägyptischer Offiziere. 2019 wurde Alla al Aswany wegen ”Beleidigung des Staates” angeklagt und floh aus Ägypten. Er lebt und arbeitet seither in Paris und New York. /🎓 Alaa al Aswany (born 1957) in conversation with Christoph Burgmer. Alaa al Aswany, a qualified dentist and Egyptian writer whose works have been translated worldwide, is one of the co-founders of ‘al Kifahi’, a protest movement that played a key role in the overthrow of the Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011. The failed Egyptian democracy movement led to a military dictatorship led by Egyptian officers. In 2019, Alaa al Aswany was charged with “insulting the state” and fled Egypt. He has since been living and working in Paris and New York.
