Intolleranza 1960
Intolleranza 1960: zo doopte de Italiaanse componist Luigi Nono zijn eerste productie voor opera. Daarmee verwees hij naar zijn eigen tijd, waarin de schokken van de Tweede Wereldoorlog nog duidelijk voelbaar waren en ook Hiroshima, de Algerijnse dekolonisatieoorlog en de heropleving van het Italiaanse fascisme diepe wonden sloegen. In korte episoden volgen we de politieke bewustwording van een mijnwerker, de Emigrant, die terugkeert naar zijn vaderland en terechtkomt in een draaikolk van geweld en onverdraagzaamheid. Hij slaagt erin meer en meer mensen achter zich te scharen in de strijd tegen onrecht en onderdrukking. Tot het noodlot opnieuw toeslaat. In de aangrijpende productie van Benedikt von Peter bevindt het publiek zich op de scène, tussen de zangers en het koor, en omringd door het orkestrale geweld. Als deel van het imposante klanklichaam van Nono’s muziektheater wordt het direct geconfronteerd met de vraag naar solidariteit en samenhang in het streven naar een andere en betere wereld.
