<p>Why did they keep a macheté nearby as sugar crane was crushed at the famous Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill? </p> <p>Tour guide <strong>Sherné Alleyne</strong> shares the gruesome story. The wind-driven machinery that ground the sugarcane in the 18th and 19th centuries is still intact, but it suffered serious damage during a freak storm in 2021. It is one of the only two intact and restored sugar mills in the Caribbean. </p> <p>The <a href="https://barbadosnationaltrust.com/trust-sites/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferer">Barbados National Trust</a> is fundraising to help restore the mill.
