Dubbing Up Your Snare Track

<p>In this week's production tip I dub up a snare.&nbsp;</p> <p>The focus is on adding movement to a snare track using echos from start to end and then selecting the best parts. &nbsp;I've set up two main outboard pieces of gear - the Benidub Digital Echo and Korg Kaoss Pad 2. &nbsp;</p> <p>Each accomplishes the same idea of echo/delay but in two different ways with differing sonic results. &nbsp;The Benidub is a clean-sounding box with numerous core options: Feedback, Time, Filters, Modulation, and more.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Korg Kaoss Pad 2 offers the ability to use your finger to trace the feedback amount, time, and tone. &nbsp;&nbsp;Used together throughout the track allows for a lot of room to shape your snare hits to enhance the song, add dynamism, movement, and that dubbed-up vibe. &nbsp;</p> <p>Once I've recorded a full track of differing echo's I'll go bar-by-bar and pick the best echo hits to keep, remove OR move the other parts that don't work. You can grab a 4 or 8 or 16 bar section of unused echo hits and try moving them to another part of the track.&nbsp;</p> <p>This can create interesting results and new momentum. &nbsp;Once I've picked the best parts and tried various others. I'll render it into a mono file and then try panning it to 9 or 3 o'clock. You can also try using a Panning plugin.</p> <p>&nbsp;In this video, I used the Soundtoys Panman to create slow movement left and right across the entire track.
