B.C. Food And Wine Radio: June 24, 2026

This week's show comes to you from District Wine Village in Oliver, British Columbia, the first wine village of its kind in Canada. It is a vibrant hub that showcases the flavours of the South Okanagan. The village is not just a wine destination but also a cultural and entertainment venue, with regular live music, events, and seasonal festivals. We learn about the Village today, including 8 wineries, a brewery, a French bakery, a bookstore, a restaurant, a roastery & coffee shop, and one distillery. Our guests include Sarah Isaksen, Tasting Room Manager at Canter Cellars, who welcomes us with a taste of their 2023 Chardonnay and updates on upcoming events & concerts, including 54. 54.40 and Blue Rodeo. There are some new faces in the village, including Todd Heintz, Owner and Winemaker at Spacedog Wines, who joins us along with his consulting winemaker, Pascal Madevon. They bring a couple of wines to taste, including the 2025 "Disinherited" 100% barrel- fermented Viognier and the 2025 "Grace Undone" 100% Rosé of Merlot. Spacedog's style is for bigger, bolder, full-bodied wines, and they compare themselves to other Okanagan wines as well as to wines from around the world. Another new face is Kyle Lyons, Winemaker at Apricus Cellars, who brings the 2025 Cabernet Franc Rosé and the 2025 Old Vines Riesling. Apricus Cellars focuses on small-lot, high- quality wines. When the Coghill and Main families moved to the Okanagan to build Neighbourhood Brewing, they fell in love with wine country and had to get involved. With their roots in the brewing industry, they were told by some that getting into wine was a “Foolish” endeavour, so they became Foolish Wines. We welcomed Kyle Stewart, Winemaker for Foolish Wines, who poured two of his wines, including the Spark 2024 Sauvignon Blanc and the Mischief 2022 Tempranillo (BC VQA). Tender Hope is a family-run winery that makes interesting, small-batch wines and has fun doing so, using traditional methods and minimal intervention during winemaking and aging. We were joined by Efi Perel, Owner and Winemaker at Tender Hope Winery, who brought two VQA wines for us to taste: the 2019 Blanc de Blanc Traditional Method Sparkling and a 2022 Pinot Noir.

This week, the episode comes to you from the patio at 15 Park Bistro, within Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos. We chat with General Manager David McBean about their distinctive Wine Passport, special events, and the Watermark Wine Series. Jesse Harnden, General Manager of Rust Winery, visits with samples of the new Alsace-inspired 2025 White Crush and the 2025 Rust Cabernet Franc, a pure Cabernet Franc from Okanagan Falls. Jesse discusses their artist-inspired labels and the upcoming summer event series featuring live music and gourmet food. Roger Gillespie, Director of Operations at Hester Creek Winery, joins us to discuss their 2025 releases, including the 2025 Hester Creek Viognier. We also taste the recently released 2022 Undici, a unique blend of 61% Sangiovese, 19% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. Roger invites everyone to enjoy special winery events, including estate lunches, harvest festivals, and live music on the patio. Next, we welcome Audrey Enixon, who recently opened her brick-and-mortar bakehouse, La Levainière by Audrey, at the District Wine Village in Oliver. Her famous sourdough breads ferment for 24 to 74 hours, using 100% Canadian flours, including Fieldstone Organics' whole wheat and rye, which she mills herself. This charming addition to the Village reflects Audrey’s passion and has gained a devoted following since she baked her first sourdough loaf in a Dutch oven in 2016. Finally, Geoffrey Moss, Master of Wine and owner of Lithica Wine Marketing in Penticton, BC, joins us for an in-person discussion. Anthony and Geoffrey share candid insights into today’s wine culture, as well as the joys and challenges of winery ownership.

This week's show comes to you from the patio at 15 Park Bistro at the Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos. We speak with General Manager David McBean about how this South Okanagan resort continues to renew its Food, Beverage and Hospitality programs each year, seeking small but steady incremental gains. Also visiting from the Similkameen is Michael Clark, Managing Director & Winemaker at Clos du Soleil Winery, which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.
