[…] And then there's no oversight, none at all. You're just supposed to look at reviews online. And so it's this very bleak and dystopian vision because whatever power parents currently have to band together and demand that things get better when they're not working is just completely gone in this vision. Years ago, I read a paper that argued that parents who switch their kids out of public schools to charter schools don't really know that they're switching them to schools with actually worse outcomes. They're just not equipped to make these sorts of judgments. It sounds like these kinds of schemes raise this to or lower this to a new level. […]
