Beyond The Adjustment Ep. 020 | Dr. Cameron Allan – Chiropractic Roots, Clinical Confidence, and an Open Mind
What happens when a lifelong connection to chiropractic meets a new country, a different professional landscape, and a growing commitment to advocacy?
In Episode 20 of Beyond the Adjustment, Dr. Chad Mykietiuk welcomes Dr. Cameron Allan, a second-generation chiropractor, New Zealand College of Chiropractic graduate, and longtime CNAC board member practising in British Columbia.
Growing up in Australia, Cameron saw chiropractic practice from the inside. His father’s office became an early classroom, where he learned about patient care, communication, and the everyday work of running a practice. After considering a career in music, he followed his interest in chiropractic to New Zealand, where his education brought together philosophy, adjusting skills, research, and access to influential mentors.
Cameron shares his journey from practising alongside his father in Australia to owning a practice in New Zealand and eventually moving to Canada with his wife and young family. He reflects on how those experiences shaped his approach to care—and how mentorship in British Columbia deepened his engagement with the research literature.
Chad and Cameron also explore differences in chiropractic education and practice across countries, the importance of recognizing our own biases, and why curiosity matters when learning from colleagues. Their conversation considers the gap between enthusiasm inside a busy chiropractic office and broader public utilization, including financial barriers, practice management, professional identity, and collaboration.
At its heart, this episode is about maintaining a clear sense of purpose while staying willing to listen, learn, and serve people better.
Guest Bio
Dr. Cameron Allan is a second-generation chiropractor practising in British Columbia and a longtime board member of the Canadian National Alliance for Chiropractic.
Raised in Australia, Cameron developed an early interest in chiropractic through his father, a 1980 Palmer College graduate. Growing up around the family practice gave him firsthand experience with patient care, communication, and practice operations.
Cameron completed his prerequisite studies at Auckland University of Technology before attending the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. During his studies, he became involved with the World Congress of Chiropractic Students, serving as his chapter’s head of research and participating in an international conference as a delegate.
After graduation, he returned to Australia to practise alongside his father. He later moved back to New Zealand, where he and his wife—also a chiropractor—purchased a practice and started their family. They relocated to Canada in 2018 to be closer to her family.
His experiences across Australia, New Zealand, and Canada have shaped his interest in chiropractic education, clinical excellence, research, and professional advocacy. Through practice, mentorship, and his work with CNAC, Cameron encourages chiropractors to remain curious, examine their assumptions, and keep service to patients at the centre of their work.
