[…] It could be ominous. 22 of the past 22 AP top 25 preseason number one ranked teams. 20 failed to win the national championship. You've got to go back a decade, Alabama, 2017. If you remember that team, a lot of folks thought should not have even made the playoffs. They ended up getting in without a single marquee win, lost to Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Then Auburn went and lost the SEC championship game. Alabama got in that year over a lot of people's objections, then went on and won it anyway. That's the only time or the last time the preseason number one team won the national championship. And again, just to repeat, in the four previous moments that Ohio State was number one preseason AP, they did not win the national title. […]
