November 2026 New Releases: PBS MASTERPIECE, BritBox & Acorn TV
Well, friends… November is here, and we have plenty to add to our watchlists! This week, I’m sharing what’s coming to PBS MASTERPIECE, BritBox, and Acorn TV in November 2026, including cozy mysteries, family comedy, international dramas, and a few not-so-cozy choices. We’re talking about release dates, what the new seasons have in store, and what I’m personally interested in watching. I also share six November book releases that have caught my attention! And there’s a special birthday shout-out for my son, who is turning nine! Episode Timestamps 1:52: PBS MASTERPIECE5:47: BritBox11:03: Acorn TV17:19: November Book Releases In This Episode PBS MASTERPIECE: Continuing Series and International Picks Before exploring November’s Walter Presents arrivals, we check in on the series continuing through the month. We chat about: * Maigret, season 2, and its November 22 finale * The Gold, season 2, and its November 22 broadcast finale * Professor T, season 5, which continues airing on local PBS stations, with all six episodes already available on the PBS MASTERPIECE Prime Video Channel Then we explore the international releases from Walter Presents: * November 6: Single Bells, season 1 * November 13: Murder in Sweden, season 5 * November 20: The Heir: A Family Chronicle * November 27: Murder in the Mountains, season 4 There’s a holiday romance I’m saving for December, Nordic crime, a heavier historical family drama, and an Austrian police mystery. These Walter Presents selections are international productions presented in their original languages with English subtitles. I’ll have to put my crochet hook down for these! BritBox: Cozy Mysteries, Family Comedy, and Heavier Drama BritBox has some familiar faces returning this month, along with countryside viewing and a celebrity quiz show. We chat about: * November 2: Friday Night Dinner, seasons 3–6 * November 6: I Escaped to the Country, season 9, available in the U.S. only * November 12: Blue Lights, season 4, with BritBox Premier access beginning November 2 * November 17: Death Valley, season 2, with BritBox Premier access beginning November 9 * November 23: Pointless Celebrities UK, season 8 * Continuing episodes of Ludwig, season 2, and Time, season 3 I share why I enjoy the unlikely partnership in Death Valley, which comedy fans might enjoy Friday Night Dinner, and why I’m waiting to binge Ludwig. I’ve also started Time, and the acting is top tier. This is definitely one of our heavier choices, with a story that has already given me plenty to think about. Acorn TV: Madame Blanc, Cold Cases, and a Bookish Bonus Over on Acorn TV, we’re heading back to Sainte Victoire, visiting New Zealand, and exploring some darker international crime stories. We chat about: * November 9: The Madame Blanc Mysteries, season 5 * November 16: Three Danish Department Q films * November 30: A Remarkable Place to Die, season 2 * November 30: Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery * This Is Not a Murder Mystery, continuing through its November 16 finale * The Red King, continuing through its November 23 finale * The Graham Norton Show, season 34, with Thursday releases in the U.S. Jean and Dom are preparing for their wedding in The Madame Blanc Mysteries, and I can’t wait to see what gets in their way before they reach the altar! I also share why episode three hooked me on This Is Not a Murder Mystery, why A Remarkable Place to Die needs to move up my watchlist, and whether Still Life should become a future Read It & Watch It selection. Read It & Watch It: Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Party | Book vs. Poirot (2010)
Well, friends… Halloween week is here, and we’re spending a little time with Hercule Poirot, Ariadne Oliver, and a Halloween party that takes a deadly turn! For October’s Read It & Watch It, I read Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party (1969) and watched its 2010 television adaptation from Agatha Christie’s Poirot, starring David Suchet and Zoë Wanamaker. We’re talking about village secrets, suspicious characters, Halloween traditions, the differences between the book and television adaptation, and which one gave me the ultimate cozy-spooky experience! And I have to say, this might be one of my favorite Halloween television watches! This episode contains major spoilers for both the book and television adaptation. Please check the content notes before listening. In This Episode Read It: Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie Our October book takes us to the fictional English village of Woodleigh Common, where thirteen-year-old Joyce Reynolds announces at a Halloween party that she once witnessed a murder. Nobody believes her, but when Joyce is found dead later that evening, Ariadne Oliver calls on Hercule Poirot to investigate. We chat about: * Why Agatha Christie mysteries sometimes need a character list * Joyce Reynolds and the consequences of dismissing someone who has a reputation for telling stories * A tangled web of village deaths, disappearances, inheritance disputes, and secrets * Rowena Drake, Michael Garfield, and the characters who made my suspect list * The people who are often overlooked or dismissed in cozy mysteries * Poirot’s deductive reasoning and why I enjoy his understanding of human behavior * Ariadne Oliver, her love of apples, and her friendship with Poirot * Halloween party games, folklore, and the autumn atmosphere * The twists I predicted and the ones I absolutely did not see coming I also recommend trying this book on audio! The edition narrated by Hugh Fraser, who played Captain Hastings in Agatha Christie’s Poirot, is a wonderful option for audiobook lovers. My rating: 4.25 out of 5 starsMy cozy rating: 3.5 out of 5Book: Hallowe’en Party by Agatha ChristiePublication year: 1969Audiobook: Hugh Fraser narration available Watch It: Agatha Christie’s Poirot — “Hallowe’en Party” Now, THIS is where the cozy-spooky atmosphere really comes to life! David Suchet returns as Hercule Poirot, with Zoë Wanamaker as Ariadne Oliver, in a television adaptation written by Mark Gatiss, whom you may recognize from Bookish on PBS Masterpiece. We chat about: * The gorgeous Halloween party decorations, autumn scenery, lighting, and costumes * Why the television adaptation made Joyce’s murder feel even more heartbreaking * Sophie Thompson’s portrayal of Mrs. Reynolds and the grief experienced by those left behind * Poirot’s need for order, his third-person references to himself, and his hilarious personality quirks * The scene involving his patent leather shoes and Ariadne Oliver’s advice. What a diva! * Why Poirot can confront a murderer but gets frightened by a black cat * Michael Garfield’s beautiful garden and the secrets hiding beneath it * The Gothic and literary symbolism from the novel that didn’t make it into the adaptation * Changes to the Reynolds family, Rowena Drake’s family, and the investigation * The additional relationships and emotional connections explored on screen * One of my favorite Poirot reveals I also share why I think this is a fantastic standalone episode for anyone who wants a Halloween mystery without having to watch an entire series first. My rating: 5 out of 5 starsMy cozy rating: 4 out of 5Where to watch: PBS Masterpiece, BritBox, and Acorn TVEpisode: Season 12, Episode 2Release year: 2010Length: Approximately 89 minutesScreenplay: Mark Gatiss Read It or Watch It? My Final Verdict Which version did I enjoy more? We discuss: * Which version delivers the stronger Halloween atmosphere * How the book and television adaptation handle the emotional impact of the murders * The character relationships and storylines changed for television * Whether you need to read the book before watching the episode * Why my overall rating and cozy rating aren’t necessarily the same Both ratings are out of five. My cozy ratings describe my personal reading and viewing experience, rather than an age rating or a guarantee about content. And this month, I think you can absolutely watch the adaptation before reading the book! Content Notes Hallowe’en Party is an atmospheric Halloween mystery, but its subject matter is darker than the beautiful settings might suggest. Both versions include: * Murder involving children * Attempted murder and threatening situations * Grief and family loss * Suicide and references to sexual violence * Disturbing revelations involving past crimes Some details and depictions differ between the novel and television adaptation. These notes are not exhaustive. Please consult a detailed content guide if needed. Coming Next: November Read It & Watch It For November, we’re reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and watching the 2017 BBC television adaptation on PBS Masterpiece. I think this will be such a lovely selection for Thanksgiving week. Our next Read It & Watch It episode arrives Tuesday, November 24. You have plenty of time to read the book, watch the adaptation, or do both before we get together again! Coming Soon: November at Cozy Comfort Club Our November theme will be announced in the upcoming Sunday newsletter! And our November Cozy Comfort Club Guide arrives November 4, with British TV recommendations to keep you company throughout the month. Both are available to free Substack subscribers, so if you haven’t joined us yet, you can have them delivered directly to your inbox. Well, friends… Halloween is getting closer, and I have 7 British TV and movie picks to help you choose your own level of spooky! In this episode, we work our way through cozy mysteries, a gothic period drama, an actual Halloween detective case, and a darker supernatural story across PBS MASTERPIECE, BritBox, and Acorn TV. Expect witches, mysterious inns, family secrets, a psychic fair, and a few familiar detectives who refuse to mind their own business. I’m sharing my honest thoughts, overall ratings, and cozy ratings with gentle spoilers and content notes to help you choose what suits your evening. And keep reading for three bonus Halloween books that didn’t make it into the recording! In This Episode Choosing Your Own Level of Spooky We chat about: * Why a Halloween watch doesn’t have to be horror * The difference between my overall ratings and cozy ratings * How beautiful settings, humor, and familiar characters can bring comfort to a darker mystery * Which selections work as standalone watches and which need a little catching up first * When you can keep crafting and when you might want to put the yarn down! Both ratings are out of five. My cozy ratings describe my personal viewing experience, rather than an age rating or a guarantee about content. My rating: 4.25 out of 5 starsMy cozy rating: 4.25 out of 5Where to watch: Acorn TVEpisode: Season 22, Episode 6Length: Approximately 89 minutesTV rating: TV-14 Best Not-So-Cozy Pick: Midwinter of the Spirit This 2015 supernatural crime drama stars Anna Maxwell Martin as Merrily Watkins, a vicar, single mother, and trainee exorcist.
