On the last Day Ones of 2020, we do our best to reflect on what felt like the the longest year of our lives. We try to parse through the pandemic, racial justice uprisings, and election to find any lessons or reflections that can help with processing their contributions to the year. Then, we comb through our personal realizations from the year and end up discussing how badly celebrities fucked up, the ways that we surprised ourselves, and take on the difficult task of figuring out what would be useful to take from 2020, into 2021.

We appreciate you rocking with us this year, and as usual you can always catch any past episodes on our feed. Feel free to give us a rating and share our show with a friend. Happy New Year!

@storytellertone

@justinandthehonorednone

This week on Day Ones, Malik Radford joins us for a rich conversation on his career as an artist. We of course get into the beginning of his journey as an artist, including his inspirations, and the role that Black Studies played in developing his artistic philosophy. He also walks us through his creative processes, the responsibility that Black artists hold in creating, and the impact of music on his work. We also learn a bit about his pieces created around "The Last Dance", his "Regular Show" & "Insecure" influenced project titled "Partment," and what we can look forward to in 2021 from him. All this fire, and so much more!

https://www.instagram.com/malikradford/

https://malikradford.weebly.com/

@dayonespodcast

@storytellertone

@justinandthehonorednone

We are joined by Patrick Boateng II, founder of Ceylon Skincare. We dive right in, learning of the inspiration that led to his entry into skincare, and what inspired him to create products for Men of Color, including his work with Dr. Lynn McKinley Grant. He shares with us the specific skin care problems that his products target, how Ceylon differs from other brands, and how we can break those cultural stereotypes around skin(shout-out to that dollar tree cocoa butter). We discuss the visual aesthetic that he is building around the brand, how a culture is being built around, and what it’s like being a Black brand in 2020. We also get a sneak preview of what might be coming from Ceylon moving forward. If we shared everything this one had to offer, we’d spoil it. Just tap in and find out more!

Ceylonskincare.com

@ceylonskincare

@dayonespodcast

@storytellertone

@justinandthehonorednone
