Terwijl de VS en Iran tot een akkoord proberen te komen, blijft Israël Libanon onophoudelijk bombarderen. "Het Libanese leger behoort tot de zwakste ter wereld en dat wordt bewust zwak gehouden", zegt journaliste Layla El-Dekmak. "Dat komt door de Amerikaanse Naval Vessel Transfer Act uit 2008. Die zegt dat de VS geen wapens mogen leveren aan landen in het Midden-Oosten die Israël kunnen bedreigen." In dat vacuüm groeide Hezbollah uit tot een invloedrijke militaire en politieke speler.
