[…] Original horror every episode, nothing held back. But tonight we're staying grounded. Painfully, historically grounded actually. Because the real story behind La Noria is worse than most of the fiction I write. Here's the shape of it. La Noria is a ghost town in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. The driest place on the surface of this planet. Drier than most deserts get in their worst decade. It was built in 1826 as a saltpeter mining settlement. One of the very first of its kind in that region. And for a while it actually worked. Shifts went out of the nearby port of Iquiqua loaded with stuff bound for Europe, and La Noria grew a church, a school, a cemetery, and a population that genuinely believed they had found their fortune in the middle of nowhere.
