26. MIDGE URE: ROMANTIKER MIT PUNK-ATTITÜDE
Er blieb stets ein wenig im Hintergrund, war aber prägend für den Sound der 80er. Jim „Midge“ Ure aus Glasgow begann als Gitarrist in der Punk-Ära, entdeckte dann aber die neu entwickelten Synthesizer und sorgte mit Visage („Fade to grey“) und Ultravox („Vienna“, „Hymn“) für große Momente. Sein Talent war, mit wenigen Zutaten einen ikonischen Sound zu erschaffen, und dabei halfen ihm großartige Produzenten, darunter Conny Plank und George Martin. 25. ROBBIE WILLIAMS: ZWISCHEN BALLADE UND BRITPOP
Robert Peter Williams, immer noch nur als „Robbie“ bekannt, gelang das Kunststück, vom Boyband-Teenidol zum respektierten Solokünstler zu wachsen. Nach sechs Jahren bei „Take That“ gelang ihm schon mit dem ersten Soloalbum 1997 der Hit „Angels“, und viele weitere sollten folgen. Sein Kreativpartner Guy Chambers hatte als Songschreiber, Multiinstrumentalist und Produzent entscheidenden Anteil an Williams‘ Welterfolg. 24. MICHAEL JACKSON: OFF THE WALL UND THRILLER
<p>Als “Thriller” 1982 erschien, war Michael Jackson 24 Jahre alt und hatte schon 16 Jahre Karriere hinter sich. Er hatte es geschafft und war von nun an „King of Pop“! Jetzt war alles perfekt: Die Songs, die Musiker und die Produktion. Der geniale Quincy Jones hielt im Studio die Fäden zusammen und schuf einen Sound, der zeitlos war und alle Genregrenzen überwand. „Thriller“ wurde das meistverkaufte Album aller Zeiten, und heute kennen Menschen weltweit diese Songs, die fast alle auch Single-Hits wurden: „All killer, no filler“!</p><p>Das Vorgängeralbum „Off the wall“ bereitete drei Jahre vorher den Weg und zeigt schon die Merkmale, die „Thriller“ so erfolgreich machten.
