[…] And this committee did a marvelous job looking at the current complexity of the training programs and how we need to evolve with changing times. Several key aspects of this document, I think, are relevant. One is that we need to focus less on the amount of time spent in training and rather looking at measurable outcomes. And we have to think about the challenges for trainees and programs because of the number of subspecializations that require additional training beyond general cardiovascular fellowships and a general lack of standardization that exists there. So we really need some fundamental changes in how we train future cardiovascular specialists. […]
