Episode 4: The Experts We May Never Create

What happens when a generation gains access to answers before developing expertise? In this episode, Dr. Lydia Elliott explores a growing concern in the age of artificial intelligence: the possibility that AI may improve performance while reducing the opportunities required to develop judgment, critical thinking, and expertise. As intelligent systems increasingly perform tasks once used to cultivate professional competence, what becomes of the experts those experiences were meant to create?Drawing on recent research into AI adoption and workforce readiness, this conversation examines the difference between access to knowledge and the formation of expertise. Dr. Elliott challenges listeners to consider whether efficiency alone is enough—and what may be lost when learning, decision-making, and problem-solving are increasingly outsourced to machines.Key Question:What if the greatest cost of AI is not the jobs we lose, but the experts we never create?ReferenceDeloitte. (2026). State of Generative AI in the Enterprise, Q1 2026. Deloitte Insights. https://www.deloitte.com/content/dam/assets-zone3/us/en/docs/services/consulting/2026/state-of-ai-2026.pdf

Episode 3: Borrowed Intelligence

What happens when access to answers begins to replace the development of expertise? In this episode, Dr. Lydia Elliott explores the growing tension between artificial intelligence and human intelligence. As AI makes information instantly accessible, many tasks become easier, faster, and more efficient. But does access to intelligence produce understanding, judgment, and expertise?Drawing on recent research into AI's impact on learning and skill development, this conversation examines the difference between having immediate access to information and cultivating the ability to think critically with it. Dr. Elliott explores how reliance on AI may influence memory, problem-solving, and decision-making, inviting listeners to consider what is gained through convenience—and what may be lost when technology begins to do the thinking for us.Key Question:When the intelligence is borrowed, who owns the judgment?ReferenceBastani, H., Bastani, O., Sungu, A., Ge, H., Kabakcı, Ö., & Mariman, R. Episode 2: The Belief You Think Is Yours

Artificial intelligence does more than provide information. Increasingly, it provides explanations, interpretations, recommendations, and perspectives that can influence how people understand the world around them. But what happens when those interpretations begin shaping not only what we know, but what we believe? In this episode, Dr. Lydia Elliott explores the emerging concept of belief offloading, the process by which individuals may begin outsourcing aspects of belief formation, maintenance, and revision to AI systems. Drawing from recent scholarship in human-AI interaction, this conversation examines how AI-generated interpretations can move beyond information retrieval and become integrated into personal judgment, decision-making, and worldview development.Using the lens of Experiential Intelligence (ExInt), Dr. Elliott discusses why the future challenge of AI may not be information access, but preserving human agency, judgment, and ownership of belief. As AI becomes increasingly persuasive, conversational, and personalized, the question is no longer simply whether an answer is correct. The question becomes: What is this answer encouraging us to believe?Together, we will explore the implications of belief offloading for learning, leadership, decision-making, and expertise in an age where machines can generate answers instantly but cannot generate wisdom, experience, or judgment.ReferenceGuingrich, R. E., Mehta, D., & Bhatt, U. (2026).
