Everyday Cyclists - A Coffee with Ry Shissler of They Cycle

They Cycle is more than a competitive cycling club - it's a movement. A movement that’s bridging the gap between casual and competitive riding for queer and non-binary folxs.

In this episode of Everyday Cyclists, we’ll chat with Ry Shissler, the founder of They Cycle, and the driving force behind creating a gender-inclusive & queer-friendly space in competitive cycling. After the success of #FillThePodium in it's inaugural year, They Cycle is back to continue it's expansion. Competitive cycling does not have a track record of inclusivity - especially in the context of gender identity. Ry outlines why They Cycle is so important and how we can all be more effective allies.

We are incredibly fortunate to be able to sit down with such a visionary in the competitive cycling space. We'll chat about how They Cycle came to be, the response from race organizers and sanctioning bodies (Fuck the UCI) and the power of allyship. We hope you enjoy this time with Ry, we're grateful for everything Ze does.

Full Story available at: thedriveside.com/everydaycyclist-theycycle

Everyday Cyclists - Chris of ManDem CC

Mandem Cycling Club is more than a cycling club, it is a movement. A movement that’s creating more space in the cycling scene by making it easier to get out there on two wheels and…just ride.

In this episode of Everyday Cyclist, we’ll chat with Chris McGarrell, the founder of Mandem CC, and the catalyst of the movement. After the club’s accidental creation (and explosion), the momentum hasn’t stopped – taking over the non-competitive cycling scene in Toronto while making waves across the country. The world of cycling doesn’t have a track record of being inclusive, diverse and non-competitive, so if you've been on a Mandem CC ride (or glanced at the IG), then you know how much it means to the growth of community.

Chris isn’t one for the spotlight, so we were excited to sit down and chop it up, over some peppermint tea. We'll chat about how Mandem CC came to be, Chris' journey to becoming a community leader, mental health & wellness, un-group rides & no-drop philosophies, the future of Mandem CC and much more. We hope you enjoy this time with Chris, we're grateful for everything he does -- we know that we wouldn't be here without him. RESPECT.

Everyday Cyclists - A Coffee With Hannah

Welcome to our very first feature in our 'Everyday Cyclist' series - this is Hannah, she's just wonderful and we're so excited for you to learn more about her. This new 'Everyday Cyclist' series is about breaking the traditional norms of what the mainstream paints cyclists and outdoor adventurers to be. We believe that it is important to spotlight the stories that broaden our perspective of who cyclist and outdoor people are...it's anyone and everyone. By highlighting a diversity of folks, stories and perspectives - we're hoping to carve out more space in this world that can be so exclusive and limiting. Hannah originally hails from Brazil, and now calls Toronto her home -- she's passionate about building equitable cities, and helping people move through them through accessible, multi-modal transportation. Fresh off finishing her Masters in Geography with a focus on urban planning, she's a breathe of fresh air with big ideas. It was a pleasure to sit down Hannah and chat about her intro to cycling, how to be a hit on a group ride, equity in transportation and city building, her favourite rides, and more. Here's a video of our sit-down over #coffeeoutside -- it's a good one:
