S4 Ep. 4: AI and Counseling

Season 4: Current Issues: Gender in Parenting, Trauma, AI in Counseling, and Social Media In this episode, hosts Caleb Martin and Cathy Chang are joined by Josh King, former Director of Communications at Perimeter Church and current Marketing Director at an AI software company, for a thoughtful conversation about technology, faith, and discernment. Together, they explore the growing presence of AI in everyday life and counseling spaces, considering both the opportunities and concerns that come with it.  Throughout the discussion, Josh helps listeners better understand what AI is, how it can be used helpfully, and where discernment is needed. They reflect on how Scripture guides the way we approach new technology, the tension between using AI as a tool versus being shaped or controlled by it, and how fear can sometimes influence the way we respond to change. The conversation also touches on the significance of being embodied image bearers of God and how some longings beneath our use of AI may ultimately point to deeper desires that Christ wants to fulfill.   We pray this episode encourages you to thoughtfully engage technology with wisdom, discernment, and dependence on the Lord. We invite you to explore the resources section for further reflection, and if you find yourself longing for deeper connection, guidance, or support, prayerfully consider reaching out to a counselor here.   Resources:   Why AI Will Not Suffice for Mental Health Counseling: A Christian and Biblical Perspective – Dan Brown (Blog)

S4 Ep. 3: Trauma

Season 4: Current Issues: Gender in Parenting, Trauma, AI in Counseling, and Social Media  In this episode, hosts Caleb Martin and Cathy Chang are joined by Darby Strickland, counselor at CCEF and author of When It’s Trauma (2025), for a conversation about trauma, suffering, and the heart of God toward those who are hurting. Darby gives language to the painful and confusing effects of trauma, giving a compassion-filled framework for understanding our experiences in light of the Word.   Throughout the discussion, Darby offers a perspective for the varying impacts trauma can have on one's body, emotions, relationships, and spiritual life. She discusses common signs of trauma as well as these impacts can vary for different people. The conversation also reflects on how Jesus draws near to sufferers and what it looks like to faithfully sit with others in their sadness as embodied image bearers of Christ.   We pray this episode brings comfort and hope to those carrying painful experiences or walking alongside someone who is hurting. If you are experiencing the effects of trauma, we encourage you to explore the resources section of this episode or prayerfully consider reaching out for counseling support.  Resources:  When It’s Trauma – Darby Strickland  Is It Abuse? – Darby Strickland  Wounded by Trauma? Pt 1 & Pt 2 – George Vaughan (Blog)

S4 Ep. 2: Engaging in Social Media with a Christian Perspective

Season 4: Current Issues: Gender in Parenting, Trauma, AI in Counseling, and Social Media  In this episode, hosts Caleb Martin and Cathy Chang are joined by Jeff Norris, Lead Pastor of Perimeter Church, for an honest and reflective conversation about the role social media plays in our lives. Together, they explore how easily our habits can form around our phones and invite listeners to consider what might be driving their engagement.  Throughout the conversation, they touch on building awareness of our patterns and dependencies, asking deeper questions about what we’re truly longing for, and learning how to invite God into those places. Jeff also shares his personal relationship with social media and the intentional choices he’s made in how he engages with it when it comes to posting, commenting, and decision making.   We pray this episode encourages you to pause and reflect on your own rhythms, inviting God into the spaces where you may be seeking comfort or escape. If this conversation resonates, we encourage you to explore the resources below or consider engaging with your community or a counselor about how to approach unhelpful social media habits.
