Ep. 31 - Should America Stop Playing Empire? (w/ Josiah Lippincott)

With Trump and the rest of America moving away from Iran, Auguste invited writer and podcaster Josiah Lippincott to discuss the conflict in this region and the goals of American foreign policy altogether. Auguste gives the case that America’s a force for good in the world, that Trump had good reasons for intervening, and that the Iran War was not a loss in any meaningful sense. Josiah, a former marine and now a professor of American history, begs to differ, explaining how intervention nearly always backfires and how domestic issues should take priority over American military action. The two go back and forth through history and circumnavigate the globe a few dozen times before the conversation pivots to the upcoming midterms and the rise of socialism in the Democrat Party. This seems like the opportunity for the GOP to make significant gains, but everyone except Trump and Vance seems to be lame and useless. Finally, both conclude that they support the America soccer team, but, like good Americans, have no plans to actually watch any games in this year’s World Cup.

Articles and podcasts referenced in this episode:

- “Lippincott Talk Ep 18: The Iran Deal Is Good”

- "The Art of the Decapitation" by Auguste Meyrat

- “A Peace Framework for America and Iran” by Josiah Lippincott

- “The Everyman Commentary Podcast: Ep. 29 - What Radicalized You?”

- “What Is Total Boomer Luxury Communism?” By Russ Green

Music Credit:

Artist: Andre Meyrat

Song: “Vaporwave Statues”

Copyright © 2025 Andre Meyrat. Ep. 30 How Can We Save the Liberal Arts? (w/ Librarian of Celaeno)

What is to become of the humanities? How does it fit with a progressive liberal culture, if at all? What is classical learning? Where do the Great Books come in? Teacher and essayist Librarian of Celaeno joins Auguste to explore these age-old questions as well as consider the impact of AI on education. While Auguste hopes to emphasize some of the more practical aspects of the humanities, the Librarian thinks these disciplines should be tied to a students’ heritage and place. Both agree that studying the humanities is worthwhile, and they also agree that leftist indoctrination has rendered the younger generations of leftist graduates too stupid to become teachers themselves. All of which suggests that conservatives have an opportunity to retake the schools, restore the humanities, and cultivate excellence again—or something to this effect.

Articles and podcasts referenced in this essay:

- “A Defense of the Liberal Arts Education in the Age of AI” Ross Douthat & Jennifer Frey

- “The Once and Future College” by Library of Celaeno

- “Artificial Intelligence Is Rewarding High School Grads For Being Dishonest Frauds” by Auguste Meyrat

- “How Colleges Have Made Themselves Useless” by Auguste Meyrat

Music Credit:

Artist: Andre Meyrat

Song: “Vaporwave Statues”

Copyright © 2025 Andre Meyrat. Ep. 29 - What Radicalized You?

The cousins meet in person to discuss the news of the day and discuss where conservatives and America are at this point. Beginning with the question of what radicalized them (abortion, moochers, and Covid), Evan and Auguste then get into the news with the Karmelo Anthony trial and consider its wider implications on race relations. Will a conviction spur a new round of “mostly peaceful protests” or will it finally help Americans turn the page on outdated narratives about systemic racism? Somehow, Auguste and Evan conclude their talk by discussing two new indie horror movies, Obsession and Backrooms, and what their success portends for American culture in the near future. Through it all, they end up weaving like Trump, taking many strains of thought and synthesizing a beautiful tapestry of prognostications. It’s all connected, man.

Essays referenced in this episode:

- “Black Power in Decline” by Scott Greer

- “The Stabbing in Frisco that Everyone Saw Coming” by Teresa Avila

- “How To Explain That Seizing Money From The Rich Ruins The Economy For Everyone” by Auguste Meyrat

- "Backrooms and the Youtuber Revolution” by David Breitenbeck

Music Credit:

Artist: Andre Meyrat

Song: “Vaporwave Statues”

Copyright © 2025 Andre Meyrat.
