Where to Find Hope When Life Doesn’t Go As Planned with Julia Jones
🌾 Find Julia on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/juliaaloring/) What happens when the life you planned looks completely different from the life you're living? In this episode of Faithful Harvest, Angela sits down with her friend Julia Jones for an honest, heartfelt conversation about motherhood, identity, divorce, and learning to surrender control to God when life takes an unexpected turn. Julia shares her journey through some of life's most challenging transitions, from navigating divorce and single motherhood to finding love again and embracing a new season as a stay-at-home mom. Along the way, she has discovered that our circumstances don't define us, our plans can change without our lives being failures, and God can bring beauty out of seasons we never would have chosen for ourselves. Together, Angela and Julia explore the pressure women often feel to have everything figured out, whether it's building a career, raising children, maintaining relationships, or living up to the expectations we place on ourselves. They discuss the freedom that comes from releasing perfectionism, extending grace to ourselves, and trusting that God meets us right where we are even in the messy, uncertain moments. If you've ever struggled with a changing identity, felt like you've lost yourself in motherhood, wrestled with a difficult decision, or wondered whether God could bring something good from a season of heartbreak, this conversation is for you. Because sometimes, the detour isn't a dead end. And the life you build after your plans fall apart may become more beautiful than you ever imagined. In This Episode, We Discuss: Navigating identity shifts through motherhood, career changes, and unexpected life transitions Learning to extend yourself grace instead of constantly comparing yourself to others Finding hope and redemption after divorce and difficult seasons What it means to surrender control and trust God's plan when you cannot see what's ahead Balancing grief and happiness while moving forward through life's challenges Releasing the pressure to be a perfect Christian, wife, or mother Finding God in the messy, ordinary moments of everyday life Embracing the freedom to change, grow, and outgrow the dreams you once held Remembering that choosing your children doesn't mean losing yourself Trusting God when the next chapter looks nothing like the one you imagined A Few Words to Take With You If you're in a season of uncertainty, give yourself permission to be where you are. You don't have to have every answer, and you don't have to become the woman you think you should be overnight. God isn't asking you to be perfect. He's inviting you to trust Him, bring Him your honest heart, and let Him meet you in the middle of your real life. Your story isn't over just because your plans have changed. If this episode encouraged you, please share it with a friend who is navigating a difficult season, questioning her next steps, or learning to trust God with a future she can't yet see. Sometimes, the reminder that we're not alone is exactly what we need! Don’t get tired of doing good, friend. You WILL reap a harvest if you do not give up! Love y’all.

What does it look like to build a business that supports your family instead of competing with it? And how do you know when it’s time to grow, ask for help, or change direction? In this episode of Faithful Harvest, Angela sits down with her friend Jill Carr, a Kansas rancher, mom of three, and podcast production business owner. Jill shares how she transitioned from a traditional job to entrepreneurship, built a business around her strengths, and learned to scale her work without losing sight of what matters most: her family. Whether you’re running a ranch, raising kids, growing a small business, or juggling all three, this conversation is full of practical encouragement for making life feel a little lighter. Jill opens up about the challenges of business ownership, the importance of recognizing burnout before you reach your breaking point, and the systems that help her manage both work and home life. You’ll also hear why creating systems doesn’t have to mean having everything perfectly organized, how to delegate without compromising quality, and why it’s important to regularly ask whether the hard thing in front of you is something to persevere through—or a sign that it’s time for a different path. In this episode, we discuss: Finding your calling: How Jill moved from a traditional job into freelancing and eventually built a podcast production business. Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship: Making family a priority while building a business that provides flexibility and meaningful work. Knowing when it’s time to scale: Recognizing when your workload is no longer sustainable and getting help before burnout takes over. Delegating with confidence: Learning to trust a team, establish expectations, and maintain quality as your business grows. Creating systems that simplify life: Using standard operating procedures, task management tools, and automation to reduce the mental load. Reducing decision fatigue at home: Simple strategies like weekly meal planning, keeping grocery lists in one place, and deciding once on routines such as birthday party meals. Letting go of perfection: Why your systems, home, and routines need to function for your family—not look perfect on Pinterest. Learning from business setbacks: How Jill reframed an offer that didn’t sell as a learning experience rather than a personal failure. Perseverance versus change: Asking whether a difficult season is calling you to push through or to consider a new direction. A few reminders to take with you You don’t have to be the person in front of the camera or behind the microphone to make a difference. There is real value in the work happening behind the scenes. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life to make it easier. Start with the repeated tasks that take up your time and mental energy, and look for one way to simplify them. And remember: functional is better than perfect. Your systems should work for your actual life, your family, and your season—not an idealized version of what you think things should look like. About Jill Carr Jill Carr lives and ranches with her husband and their three children in the Flint Hills of Kansas. She owns a podcast production business that helps coaches launch and grow podcasts to support their businesses. Through her work, Jill helps others share their messages while managing the behind-the-scenes details of podcast production. Jill is passionate about business, motherhood, practical systems, and the importance of community. She believes we need each other—and welcomes conversations with women navigating the many moving parts of work and family life. If you’re a farmer, rancher, mom, or entrepreneur trying to build a life and business that reflect what matters most, this episode is for you. Join Angela and Jill for an honest conversation about faith, family, business growth, practical systems, and giving yourself permission to do things in a way that works for your life. How to Have Faith When God's Timing Doesn't Match Yours with Bryce Albright

In this episode of Faithful Harvest, Angela sits down with Bryce Albright, a first-generation cattle rancher in Wyoming, mom of two little girls, and executive director of the National Dude Ranchers Association. Between raising a young family, building a cow herd, managing a demanding career, and even running a sourdough baking side hustle, Bryce knows what it means to work hard toward a dream while learning to trust God's timing. Bryce shares how opportunities she once couldn't have imagined fell into place, how her relationship with God has grown gradually rather than through one dramatic moment, and how the women around her have helped carry her through difficult seasons of motherhood and mental health struggles. Together, Angela and Bryce talk honestly about the challenges of building a ranching operation from the ground up, the pressure of professional leadership, navigating family planning, and finding a church and Christian community in rural areas where options can be limited. This conversation is a reminder that you don't have to have everything figured out to take the next step. God can be at work long before you recognize it, and the waiting seasons can be just as important as the harvest. In this episode, you'll hear about: Building a ranching dream from the ground up: Bryce's journey as a first-generation cattle rancher, starting a cow herd on 25 acres, and working toward a future where ranching can be the family's primary livelihood. Trusting God's timing: How unexpected opportunities shaped Bryce's career and ranching journey, and why God's timing doesn't always match our plans. Growing in faith gradually: Why a relationship with God doesn't always begin with one dramatic, life-changing moment—and how looking back can reveal His presence along the way. Balancing motherhood, work, and ranch life: The realities of raising two young children while managing a demanding career and pursuing big dreams. The importance of Christian community: How faithful friendships, prayer, and encouragement helped Bryce through postpartum depression and difficult seasons. Finding a church in rural America: What to do when you haven't found a church home and why even one or two trusted Christian friends can make a difference. Making room for supplemental income: How Bryce turned her love of sourdough baking into a side hustle through preorders and farmers markets. Knowing when your family is complete: An honest conversation about family planning, trusting God, and seeking wisdom and peace in deeply personal decisions. Putting in the work while trusting God: Why faith doesn't mean waiting for everything to fall into place without taking action. Being present in the season you're in: Bryce's simple but powerful reminder to stop living five steps ahead and be here now. If you're a farmer, rancher, homesteader, or rural mom working hard to build a life you believe God has called you to, this episode is for you. Keep showing up, keep doing the work in front of you, and don't lose heart when the harvest feels far away. As Galatians 6:9 reminds us, don't grow weary of doing good. In due season, we will reap a harvest if we don't give up.

In this episode of Faithful Harvest, Angela sits down with Amanda Devan, a Western industry writer, editor, author, wife, mom, and lifelong cowgirl, for a conversation about following unexpected opportunities, building a meaningful life, and learning to trust yourself when the voice of doubt gets loud. Amanda shares the winding path that took her from working in Western media to becoming the editor of Western Horseman and eventually writing two books: The Cowgirl and Rodeo for Dummies. Her story is a powerful reminder that our calling doesn't always arrive as a perfectly mapped-out plan. Sometimes it looks like a random email, a phone call, or an opportunity we're not sure we're qualified for. But Amanda's story isn't just about career success. She and Angela dive into the realities of being ambitious women in the Western and agricultural industries—especially when motherhood, work, family, and personal passions all compete for the same limited 100%. Amanda also opens up about imposter syndrome and negative self-talk, sharing the simple practice she uses when anxiety tells her something that isn't true: replace the thought with what you know to be true. That principle becomes especially powerful when paired with faith and Scripture. The conversation also tackles the changing Western industry and the growing interest in ranching, homesteading, regenerative agriculture, and the Western lifestyle. Amanda and Angela discuss how the industry can welcome newcomers while still protecting the values, work ethic, honesty, and integrity that make the Western community what it is. And ultimately, Amanda leaves listeners with a challenge: Why not you? If you've ever wondered whether you're qualified enough, experienced enough, or established enough to pursue the thing that's on your heart, this episode is for you. In this episode, you'll hear about: Amanda's unexpected journey from corporate Western media to authorship How hard work and reputation can create opportunities you never expected Trusting God when you don't know what comes next The realities of balancing motherhood, work, and multiple passions Why "having it all" doesn't mean giving 100% to everything at once Imposter syndrome and the negative self-talk that comes with pursuing something new A practical way to distinguish anxious thoughts from what is actually true Why Western culture is attracting more people than ever Welcoming newcomers into agriculture while preserving Western values The importance of agricultural education and passing knowledge to the next generation Giving yourself permission to pursue something before you have it all figured out Thank you, Amanda for this conversation that will inspire so many women to embrace the ethos of "cowgirl" and make the next right move. Dear listener, I am praying for your success. See you next week!

How to Know What's Worth Your Time with Tyler Schuster

In this episode of Faithful Harvest, Angela sits down with Tyler Schuster to talk about following your calling, knowing when to pursue something—and when to let it go—and building a life around your values instead of simply saying yes to everything. Tyler grew up on her family’s female-owned and operated cow-calf ranch in Brackettville, Texas. Today, she works with college students, hosts the podcast Basically Famous, and founded Brands and Blazers, a nonprofit providing professional attire and networking opportunities to students in need. But beneath all of those accomplishments is a deeper conversation about purpose, faith, community, impact, and learning to recognize what God is asking you to pursue. Tyler shares how she prays for God to “swing the door open or slam it shut,” why she believes action breeds clarity, and how one disappointing “no” eventually led her toward an opportunity she never could have planned herself. She also shares practical wisdom for women who feel overwhelmed by too many commitments—including how to create a personal mission statement, identify your core values, build a personal “board of directors,” and become more intentional about what deserves your time and energy. And at the heart of it all is Tyler’s reminder that impact isn't always measurable, calling doesn't always look obvious, and joy is something we get to choose. In this episode, we talk about: How to recognize a calling and distinguish it from something you simply want Praying for God to open or close doors Why “no” can create new opportunities Preparing yourself for the doors you’re praying will open Measuring impact beyond numbers and statistics Building a community that speaks life into you Creating a personal board of directors Finding mentors and intentionally asking for their time Why every “yes” is also a “no” to something else Creating personal goals, values, and a mission statement Learning to say no when something doesn't align with your values Building a life that fits your priorities instead of making your life fit your job Choosing joy even when circumstances aren't perfect A few things to think about after listening: What are you saying “yes” to right now that is costing you something you actually value? What are the things that consistently break your heart, align with your gifts, and fall within your sphere of influence? And perhaps most importantly: Is the thing you're pursuing a “God thing” or a “you thing”? Tyler's encouragement is simple: stay ready, follow the doors God opens, trust Him when He closes them, and choose joy along the way. About Tyler Schuster Tyler Schuster is passionate about empowering people to find their passions. She grew up on her family's cow-calf operation in Brackettville, Texas, and has a deep passion for agriculture and women in agriculture. She is the founder of Brands and Blazers, a nonprofit that provides professional attire and networking opportunities to students, and the host of Basically Famous, a podcast highlighting careers in the agriculture and Western industries that people may not know exist. Remember, don't get tired of doing good. You WILL reap a harvest if you do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Between drought, volatile cattle markets, raising babies, managing a career, and navigating relationships, rural women carry a lot. In this episode of Faithful Harvest, Angela Scott sits down with Sidney Abbott—a farm wife, mother of two, feedlot research director, risk-management professional, and co-founder of Yard Yaps—to talk about how faith can anchor us when life feels chaotic. Sidney shares what she has learned about motherhood, career, community, female friendships, and navigating the ups and downs of agriculture without allowing circumstances to dictate her peace. One of the biggest lessons from their conversation? Respond, don't react. Whether you're dealing with a difficult relationship, a challenging business decision, a toddler meltdown, a volatile cattle market, or a season of drought, Sidney encourages us to pause, pray, seek wisdom, and respond instead of reacting from fear, anger, or frustration. And for the rural woman who sometimes feels like she is carrying all the things? This conversation is a reminder that you were never meant to do it alone. We cover the whole spectrum! What it's like to be a mother, farm wife, and career-driven woman in agriculture The importance of finding community as a rural woman Why women in agriculture need relationships with other women How Yard Yaps is creating opportunities and community for women in the cattle industry Navigating hurt and disappointment in female friendships Learning to respond instead of react Applying faith to business decisions, parenting, relationships, and agriculture Staying grounded when facing drought and volatile agricultural markets How motherhood changed Sidney's perspective and deepened her faith The power of simply praying over your day Why we need to turn to God before we reach our breaking point Building community even when you live in a tiny rural town Sidney and her husband are first-generation farmers navigating drought and the challenges that come with an uncertain agricultural economy. Instead of allowing those circumstances to paralyze them, Sidney talks about the importance of educating yourself, seeking out experts, using the resources available to you, and making adjustments when circumstances change. Sometimes the answer isn't to make a drastic change. Sometimes it's simply time to adjust your sails. As Sidney says, agriculture has a way of reminding us that seasons change. When things are good, prepare for the storm. When things are difficult, remember that brighter days can come. And through it all, stay grounded in your faith. Sidney opens up about the anxiety she felt when she first became a mother and wondered how she could continue progressing professionally while also being the mother she wanted to be. Rather than choosing between motherhood and her career, she has experienced what she describes as a hybrid life—with supportive employers, a supportive husband, and a willingness to pray and trust God with her schedule. Her encouragement for other career-driven mothers is simple: Ask God to help you with your schedule. You don't have to have the perfect plan before you bring it to Him. Living in a community of roughly 200 people doesn't exactly make it easy to find your people. There isn't necessarily a coffee shop, yoga studio, or gathering place where you can casually meet women in the same season of life. Sidney and her co-founder, Diane Hayes, recognized that need and created Yard Yaps, a community designed to connect women across the cattle-feeding industry. Whether you're a young mother on maternity leave, a woman working in a feedlot, an agricultural CEO, or simply someone interested in learning more about the industry, their goal is to create a place where women can learn, ask questions, network, and build relationships. Near the end of the conversation, Sidney shares one of the simplest practices that has made the biggest difference in her life: Praying over her schedule. Instead of waiting until she is overwhelmed, she tries to begin her day by asking God for help with everything ahead. It doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it's simply: "God, please help me get everywhere on time. Please help me get everything done today." That simple prayer gives her a moment to pause, surrender her day, and create space to respond instead of react. And perhaps that's something we could all use a little more of. If Sidney's story encouraged you, be sure to connect with her and learn more about the work she's doing in agriculture and for women in the cattle industry. Yard Yaps — A community for women in agriculture, with a particular focus on connecting women across the cattle-feeding industry. Abbott Hay Co. — Follow along with Sidney and her husband's agricultural operation. LinkedIn — Follow Sidney for more conversations about agriculture, risk management, cattle markets, and opportunities for women in the industry. Questions to Think About Where am I reacting instead of responding? What situation in my life do I need to surrender to God? Am I trying to control something that is outside of my control? Who are the women I can turn to when I need encouragement or wisdom? Where could I be more intentional about building community? Am I waiting until I'm overwhelmed to ask God for help? What resources or people could help me grow in my agricultural business or career? What "storm" could I prepare for while things are going well? You don't have to control every circumstance to live a grounded life. You can pray. You can seek wisdom. You can educate yourself. You can build community. You can prepare for difficult seasons. And when something unexpected comes your way, you can pause and choose to respond instead of react. That's where faith meets everyday life. And that's what Faithful Harvest is all about.
