Episode 22 — The Centennial

One hundred series. Five hundred and sixty games. Fifty-one walk-offs, two comebacks from the brink of elimination, one no-hitter that still ended in defeat, and an eighteen-inning marathon that tested the limits of two rosters and everyone watching. The Play-In Round of Field of Dreams has been running since Episode 1, and after one hundred series of all-eras Major League Baseball history colliding in a knockout tournament, it is time to stop and take stock of what has been built.

Episode 22 is The Centennial — a special commemorative broadcast covering everything that has happened across the first one hundred series of competition. The New York Yankees lead all franchises with ten wins. The Pittsburgh Pirates have been the most consistent challenger. The Colorado Rockies have been the tournament’s hardest luck story. The 1971 San Diego Padres — a hundred-loss team in real life — pulled off one of the great upsets in tournament history. Eddie Cicotte threw a no-hitter and still went home a loser. Babe Ruth delivered a walk-off in a seven-game classic that stands as the best series the tournament has ever produced.

This episode also marks the official launch of the Diamond Ledger — the living record of the greatest individual hitting and pitching performances in Field of Dreams history, updated every hundred series as the competition continues.

No new series are narrated in this episode. This one belongs entirely to the first hundred. The tournament resumes in Episode 23, with the next stop at Series 200.

Field of Dreams. All eras. One champion.

This is a public episode. Episode 21 - The Enigma Of Bonds

Episode 21 of the Field of Dreams Podcast brings us Series 96 — and one of the most compelling matchups this tournament has produced. The 1999 San Francisco Giants, built around the most polarizing player in the history of the game, step into the bracket against the 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates — the We Are Family club, one year removed from their World Series championship, still carrying the glow of one of the most beloved titles in baseball memory.

At the center of it all is Barry Bonds. Three MVP awards. A left fielder of uncommon grace. Numbers that defy easy interpretation and a legacy that invites argument the moment his name is spoken. In 1999 he is thirty-four years old, playing through injury, and still one of the most dangerous hitters on the planet. What does he mean? What do his numbers tell us? And what happens when he steps into October against a Pittsburgh team that believes in togetherness as a competitive weapon?

Surrounding Bonds, Dusty Baker has assembled a dangerous Giants club — Jeff Kent, Ellis Burks, J.T. Snow, Russ Ortiz, and a bullpen anchored by closer Robb Nen. For Pittsburgh, Chuck Tanner sends out Jim Bibby, Willie Stargell, Mike Easler, Dave Parker, and the inimitable Kent Tekulve in a series that pits two very different baseball philosophies against one another across five games and two cities.

This is Episode 21 of the Field of Dreams Podcast — fully narrated for the first time by our new voice, carrying this tournament forward with the same reverence the story deserves.

For questions, feedback, or to follow the tournament, reach out at legendschannel3@gmail.com

This is a public episode. EPISODE 20 — The Greatest Of All Yankee Clubs

Welcome back to the Field of Dreams Podcast — the show where history doesn’t stay in the record books. Every week, we pull the greatest teams from every era of Major League Baseball and throw them into a single-elimination tournament that doesn’t care about decades, dynasties, or decades of separation. This is baseball’s ultimate what-if, simulated pitch by pitch, game by game, in Out of the Park Baseball.

This week, Series Ninety-One. And this week, the matchup history has been waiting for.

The 1998 New York Yankees — one hundred and fourteen wins, one of the most dominant teams ever assembled in the American League, a roster loaded from top to bottom with players who knew exactly what they were and never let you forget it — step into the bracket against the 1912 Cleveland Naps, a Dead Ball era club anchored by two of the purest talents the game has ever produced in Nap Lajoie and Shoeless Joe Jackson. Old world meets new. Wool uniforms meet pinstripes. And somewhere in between, we find out what baseball is really made of.

Game by game. No shortcuts, no summaries — just the game, the way it was played.

Questions, thoughts, or just want to talk baseball?
