58 // Yoga for an Overactive Mind | Gentle Christian Yoga to Quiet Your Thoughts

Does your mind keep moving even when you are ready to slow down? You may be replaying conversations, mentally working through tomorrow’s responsibilities, or moving quickly from one thought to the next. Trying to force those thoughts to stop can sometimes make the mind feel even busier. In this episode of Firmly Planted, Laurie guides you through a gentle Christian yoga practice designed to help you step out of overthinking and reconnect with your body. Through slow movement, steady breathing, balance, and Scripture-based reflection, you’ll practice noticing where your attention has gone and gently bringing it back. This practice contains no music. Feel free to add your own! *** Video of this practice available on YouTube*** This practice may be especially helpful when you feel: Mentally scattered or overstimulated Caught in repetitive thoughts Distracted during prayer Tired but unable to settle Worried about what comes next Disconnected from your body In need of a calm mental reset You do not need to empty your mind or remain perfectly focused. Every time you notice that your thoughts have wandered, you have an opportunity to return.   Scripture References Psalm 46:10Isaiah 26:3Psalm 131:2Philippians 4:8   Choose a comfortable amount of movement and adapt the practice to your body today. A chair or wall may be used for additional support.   Disclaimer: This practice is intended to support gentle movement, relaxation, and spiritual reflection. 56 // Why You Can't Relax Even When You're Tired | A Christian Nervous System Reset

Have you ever been physically exhausted but still unable to settle? You sit down to rest, but your mind keeps making lists. You lie in bed, but your body still feels tense, alert, or unable to let go. In this episode of Firmly Planted, Laurie explains why the body may remain in a protective stress response even after the stressful moment has passed. You’ll learn why telling yourself to “just relax” often is not enough and how simple practices can offer your nervous system gentle signals that it is safe enough to slow down. The episode ends with a guided Christian nervous system reset using slower breathing, humming, body awareness, breath prayer, and Scripture. This practice is especially helpful when you feel: Tired but unable to relax Restless at the end of the day Mentally busy or overstimulated Tense after stress or a difficult conversation Guilty for resting Disconnected from your body or prayer You do not have to create a perfect feeling of peace. You are invited to pause, breathe, and meet God in the middle of your actual experience. This episode is intended to support relaxation and spiritual reflection. It is not a substitute for medical care, mental health care, diagnosis, or treatment. Please listen to your body and choose what feels appropriate for you.   Next steps: If this meditation served you, consider subscribing so you can return for more Christian meditations, sleep practices, and gentle faith-based encouragement.
