[…] However, Survivors have recounted their ordeal of how they were parked in a poorly ventilated and overcrowded cell and suggested the victims had died of suffocation. Tunji Disu, Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, said investigations were underway. We have already taken charge of the scene of incidents because a lot of things have to be taken into consideration. We have to keep the place safe. We have to keep it clean. We have to ensure that nothing is removed and nothing is added to the scene of the incident. The Inspector General also said an independent committee to investigate the reported deaths had been set up. adding that the government owes the families of the deceased and the Nigerian public a transparent account of the events leading to the incident.
