About Folding Towels - A Podcast for Massage Therapists with Jackie and David
Jackie Kerin and David Clayton met over a massage table in Adelaide (Australia) back in 2015 - now they bring their quirks, and passion for the industry to this brand-new podcast. Discussing all the things they never told you about in massage school - complex cases, difficult customers, maintaining boundaries, administration, being in business and making decisions, and the never-ending pile of laundry. Most importantly, staying passionate to do what you actually trained to do and love. Folding towels is the massage class you wish you could take; with all the questions you wish you'd asked.
Episode 142: Changing Careers at 52 - Jenny Kelly’s Path into Massage
David joins Jenny Kelly at her clinic in Manly to talk about changing careers at 52 and finding her place in massage therapy.
After a long career in fashion, Jenny returned to study in 2020, despite being unsure whether she could get her head around anatomy after time away from formal learning. Inspired by the remedial massage that helped her return to running after injury, she began practising from home before establishing in her own dedicated treatment space - Vivre Massage Therapy for Women.
We discuss finding a niche with active women, balancing remedial work with a nurturing treatment experience, and the realities of building a practice one client at a time. Jenny also shares how supporting her brother through palliative care led to her volunteering with parents at Bear Cottage, and the community effort behind her (over) 1,000 km fundraising run.
It is an honest conversation about starting later, continuing to learn, and creating a practice that feels like your own.

Episode 141: Jenny Yeh – Before You Say Yes: Choosing the Right Clinic to Work In
Jenny Yeh received two clinic job offers on the same day. One promised more hours, a shorter commute and greater financial security. But after accepting the role, she discovered working conditions that challenged her professional standards, including concerns about the treatment room, equipment and linen hygiene.
In this episode, we speak with Jenny about recognising those warning signs, raising her concerns and ultimately deciding to walk away. We also explore the questions massage therapists should ask before accepting a clinic role: Can you inspect the treatment room? Who supplies the equipment and linen? Who handles the laundry? What clients does the clinic attract? Do its values and expectations fit your own?
Jenny also shares how her earlier career working with children in Taiwan led her towards pregnancy, fertility and infant massage, and what 15 years in the profession has taught her about finding work that suits the practitioner you are.

Your Brand Is What Clients Remember You For
What does branding actually mean for a massage therapist?
In this practical conversation, we unpack the difference between a logo and a brand.
While visual identity can shape a first impression, clients are more likely to remember how clearly you communicated, whether you listened, how reliable you were, and whether the experience matched the promises you made.
We discuss personal versus clinic branding, finding a niche, using social media without turning into a false version of yourself, and the common traps of generic copy, stock-image overload and chasing fashionable language.
Whether you work for yourself, rent a room, contract within a clinic or are employed by someone else, your professional reputation follows you.
Your brand develops one appointment at a time.
