[…] Like, why did that kind of open that up to suddenly this is a thing? Yeah. So first off, there was a lot more human activity in the water that summer. Recreational swimming had become popular and there was no air conditioning and they were in the middle of one of the hottest summers. So it simply just meant there was more activity in the water. But also, like we said, sharks were apparently more abundant in the region that summer. Fishermen and captains were reporting unusually large numbers of sharks along the mid-Atlantic coast. Although that itself does not explain the attacks. I think there were more people in the water, but also more sharks along the coast, which led to a disproportionate amount of opportunities for an attack. […]
