by Michael Bailey
Michael Bailey likes Superman. A lot. So much so that From Crisis to Crisis, the other Superman show he co-hosts with his friend, was not enough to contain his fandom for the Man of Steel. This erratic reaffirmation of Michael's Kryptonian faith covers everything about Superman that Michael loves about the character. Comics. Animation. Live action. Prose. Everything is on the table because no matter what it all comes back to Superman.

Welcome to It All Comes Back to Superman Series 2‘s second and final entry into the mammoth and totally awesome JSApril podcasting crossover! Because the JSA is turning 85 this year and a bunch of us wanted to celebrate that!

This time out I am joined by Derek Russel (he of Super House of El and The Siegel and Shuster Society Podcast) to talk about the first time the Justice Society was ever done in live action and it just so happens that it is Superman related. Back in 2010 the Smallville television series had an epic, two hour event called Absolute Justice. The death of a man named Sylvester Pemberton puts Clark and Chloe on the path that leads to a group of costumed heroes of the past. Through the course of the two episodes we get to see Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Stargirl, and the villainous Icicle and even get hints of another DC institution, Checkmate!

Derek and I talk about it from all angles. How did it work as (technically) two episodes of Smallville? How well did they adapt these characters? Why was I so excited to see J'onn J'onnz and Doctor Fate on screen together? How much comic book minutia about Hawkman can I cram into one episode? What is up with Doctor Fate's gloves? All of these questions and more are asked and answered!

If you want to check out the other shows and blogs that are part of JSApril, click on this link for a full list of shows!

Feedback for It All Comes Back To Superman Series 2 can be sent to [email protected]. At the end of this series I will be doing a feedback special going through all of the emails and comments that are left or sent!

You can subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts/iTunes or stream it through Spotify, iHeart Radio, and Audible.

The Fortress of Baileytude Podcasting Network is on Patreon. It’s mostly a tip jar as I have no time at the moment to produce exlcusive content, but if you like the content I do produce please consider contributing a dollar a month.

The opening and closing theme to the show is titled Journey and was composed by Pontus Rufelt. It is licensed from Shockwave-Sound.

Next Time: Come back on Monday for more Moving Kryptonian Images fun and keep an eye out for more special episodes coming in May as part of my own personal Summer of Superman!

Welcome to It All Comes Back to Superman Series 2's entry into the mammoth and totally awesome JSApril podcasting crossover!

What is JSApril? It's a celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Justice Society of America! It was spearheaded by my friend Shag from The Fire and Water Podcast Network and there are dozens of blogs and podcasts that are all doing entries and episodes focusing on some aspect of the JSA's history.

In this, the first of two specials that you'll be getting, I talk about the Justice Society of America storyline Thy Kingdom Come. Actually, I do a bit of podcasting multitasking because I also wanted to devote episodes of this show to the stories appearing in the Superman trade boxset that has the snazzy new Superman shield from the movie on the slipcase and one of those is Kingdom Come. So, I mainly talk about the Thy Kingdom Come storyline that ran in Justice Society of America issues 10-22 as well as the annual from 2008 and three specials that came out in November of 2008 but I also spend some time talking about Kingdom Come as well. I also go through where my love of the JSA came from, the set-up to the storyline, some very basic bits of background on why it happened, and then I get into the story itself and along the way I dig into Superman's role in Kingdom Come, why I have come to love that version of the Man of Steel, and a deep dive into the Justice Society of America Kingdom Come Superman Special #1!

If you want to check out the other shows and blogs that are part of JSApril, click on this link for a full list of shows!

Feedback for It All Comes Back To Superman Series 2 can be sent to [email protected].
Welcome to another city smashing installment of a podcasting maxi-series called Moving Kryptonian Images: The Live Action and Animated Adventures of Superman! The purpose of this series is to celebrate the release of the new Superman film, written and directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor!

This time out I am joined by Anthony Desiato of Digging For Kryptonite: A Superman Fan Journey and Another Exciting Episode in the Adventures of Superman to talk about the first in a series of animated movies featuring DC characters or adaptations of actual comic book stories. Superman/Doomsday was released in September of 2007 and was not so much an adaptation of The Death and Return of Superman saga as something that was inspired by that story. Anthony and I discuss the pros and cons of taking story beats from the Death and Return (an important story for both of us) as well as the voice cast and the special features that came with the original DVD release. I also spend a good more time than necessary complaining about the Death and Return omnibus that came out at the same time.

Again, Anthony hosts Digging for Kryptonite and Another Exciting Episode in the Adventures of Superman. Both of these shows are excellent podcasts and Anthony has done such a great job shining a light on Superman history and the fifties Adventures of Superman television series.

It is licensed from Shockwave-Sound.

Next Time: Moving Kryptonian Images continues with Donovan Morgan Grant, who joins me to talk about Superman/Batman: Public Enemies!
