Batman: THE LAST HALLOWEEN (Plus! Batman & Robin: YEAR ONE)
Host Anthony Desiato presents a special Halloween double-header! First, Anthony and guest Bill Maio shine a light on the conclusion of The Long Halloween Saga — BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN: THE LAST HALLOWEEN — by Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale, and a host of artists paying tribute to the late Sale. BATMAN BEGINS
Host Anthony Desiato and guest Rob O'Connor (All Star Superfan Podcast (https://allstarsuperfan.podbean.com/)) shine a light on the 2005 film BATMAN BEGINS, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, which made an outsized impact on the character and superhero movie genre. They discuss how the film shaped them as younger Batman fans; the scope of the origin story told — well beyond the typical moment of Bruce with his slain parents in the alley; key themes of fear & falling; direct comic book influences on Nolan, including the relatively obscure short story "The Man Who Falls" from 1989; and the choice & utilization of Ra's al Ghul & Scarecrow as the primary antagonists. Batman: NO MAN'S LAND
Host Anthony Desiato and guest Lance Laster (Always Hold On To Arrow (https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/always-hold-on-to-arrow--5497038)) shine a light on the 1999 storyline "No Man's Land," in which an earthquake-ravaged Gotham City is cut off from the rest of the nation. They discuss the event's innovative approach to assigning creative teams; emphasis on character — rather than plot — in what is ultimately a morality play; rich development of the Batman & Gordon partnership; and moral complexity of Gotham's heroes & villains as they vie for territory in the NML.
