[…] And the main way that we are seeing this toxicity develop is from having too much of the drug concentrated in the bloodstream that is then reaching these fast replicating cells. So it's a really tight balance of not enough drug or too much drug. And trying to calculate that preemptively is the whole name of the game with effective cancer care here. And our bodies normally break these drugs down, correct? Is that through the liver or specific enzymes in the liver? Both, yes. So in the liver, there is an enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase, DPD. that is responsible for the catabolism of about 80% of fluoropyrimidine that is administered to the body. […]
