During the negotiations that led to the Good Freddy Agreement, Sinn Féin argued strongly for the scrapping of the Government of Ireland Act, and that was also a central part in the build up to that point in the development of the peace process. During the actual negotiations for the agreement we we couldn't get uh others to focus on the government of ireland act in the way that we were focusing on it but martin mcginnis and i persisted because we were determined to secure maximum change to british constitutional legislation and to include a mechanism to democratically and peacefully advance the aim of Irish reunification.
