[…] So they left the village behind abandoning it for a couple years until it's time for Fort Dakota. Fort Dakota comes along in 1865. And along with the military reservation comes soldiers. And Fort Dakota is only going to be here for four years. But in those four years, there's going to be four deaths of soldiers. Four deaths of soldiers. There's also a death of an unknown washerwoman. We only know her last name, which she shares with one of the soldiers at the fort. That last name is Gallagher. But with the military deaths means we need a separate area, separate land for the National Military Cemetery over here and then City Cemetery over there. […]
