A Holy Meal

Tom Webster and I met at Theology Beer Camp 2024 in Denver, CO. Tom and his friends at the Theology on the Rocks podcast did the Hot Wings Challenge with theological questions from the audience. During that encounter, Tom made a comment about his theology of the Eucharist, about what is happening around the Holy Table. As this has been an ongoing area of theological inquiry for me, I later asked Tom if he’d be willing to visit with me on this podcast about the Eucharist and how it can expand our understanding of loving our neighbor.

This episode was recorded in mid-December, 2024. As a pastor in the midst of Advent and Christmas preparations I knew I wouldn’t have the energy to edit and upload this amazing conversation until some time after the new year (2025). And then, after that new year, my life kind of exploded. More than one mental health crisis, as well as a toxic relationship reasserting itself into my world--despite the boundaries I had in place--absorbed any extra energy I might have had.

Now a full year has gone by, and I just couldn’t leave this fascinating conversation in the digital ether. It’s too good to keep to myself. Please enjoy this episode where Tom and I nibble on so many crumbs around the Eucharistic Table, from food injustices and farming to eating disorders.

A bit about Tom: Thomas Webster is an acquisitions editor as Orbis Books as well as a Theologian in his own right. He teaches theology at Memphis Theological Seminary. Tom is also an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church.

This is a public episode. Listening to Our Neighbors

On this episode of Love Feasts and Food Fights I visit with Dr. Dwight Zscheile, the VP for Innovation at Luther Seminary and Professor of Congregational Mission and Leadership. Dr. Zscheile and his wife, the Rev. The Fruit of the Spirit

This was such a fun conversation with Matt Mikalatos and Kathy Khang, co-authors of “Loving Disagreement: Fighting for Community through the Fruit of the Spirit.” During the conversation you may notice a faint buzzer in the background. This episode was recorded at the local public library, which shares space with the high school library, and the buzzer rang a couple of times as classes switched.

Both Kathy and Matt have their own solo projects. You can find Kathy on all the socials @mskathykhang, except her blog: http://www.kathykhang.com. Matt has his own Substack called Imaginary Friends: mattmikalatos.substack.com. You’ll also want to stay tuned for his new graphic novel, “God With Us: Bible Stories on the Road to Emmaus,” coming out April 1st, 2025.

This is a public episode.
