"As Men We Bottle It Up": Big Boy's Dylan Llewellyn Brother's Tragic Loss | Manopause Podcast E.5

This episode is the most emotional and poignant episode of #Manopause so far. #Hollyoaks #DerryGirls, #BigBoys and #BeyondParadise star Dylan Llewellyn joins Brendan & James alongside his father, Barry, for an extraordinarily honest conversation about suicide, grief, family and finding a reason to keep going after an unimaginable family loss. Dylan also discussed his shyness and his dyslexia as he reflects on the career that has taken him from Hollyoaks to Derry Girls, Big Boys and Beyond Paradise and reveals why he would love to leave comedy behind temporarily and play a truly terrifying character. The discussion asks why men turn sadness into anger, why “pull yourself together” may be some of the worst advice we give ourselves and why male friendship matters far beyond having someone to share a pint or a round of golf with. Dylan also explains the importance of women in helping men become more emotionally open, while an emotional James reflects on losing his own father and the powerful bond between Dylan and Barry. And because this is still Manopause, the poignant interview does not stop Brendan and James from finding their way back to complete nonsense. In Moan of the Week, poor customer service, disappearing shop assistants and overzealous “jobsworths” all come under fire. James explains why changing his shirt behind a curtain nearly caused a confrontation, Brendan loses patience over two suitcase wheels crossing a station’s yellow line, and even a McDonald’s security guard gets dragged into the argument. The viewers’ questions then spark a wonderfully ridiculous debate about one of James' phobias, and whether private education is somehow responsible for arachnophobia. Finally, the pair reveal the careers they would choose if dancing had never happened. It is an episode about friendship in all its forms: the friend who takes the mickey, the friend who holds you when you are frightened, the family that survives together and the person who answers the phone when you finally admit you are not all right. This episode contains strong language and frank discussion of suicide, bereavement, alcohol dependency and grief. If you have been affected by bereavement, support is available from Cruse Bereavement Support:https://www.cruse.org.uk/Cruse Helpline: 0808 808 1677#DylanLlewellyn #DerryGirls #MaleMentalHealth #SuicideAwareness #MensMentalHealth #BeyondParadise #BigBoys #Hollyoaks #GriefSupport #Bereavement #Manopause #ManopausePodcast #BrendanCole #JamesJordan #StrictlyComeDancing

James Jordan - "My Colitis Battle"

James Jordan has never spoken publicly about his battle with ulcerative colitis. Until now. In this raw and revealing episode of Manopause, James tells Brendan Cole what it is really like living with an invisible illness: the pain, blood, exhaustion, flare-ups and constant fear of being caught too far from a toilet. He also reveals the controversial personal decision he believes brought his symptoms under control and explains how the condition affected his confidence, freedom and mental health. Joining James and Brendan in the studio is Lee McQueen, winner of The Apprentice Series 4, successful entrepreneur and founder of Elite Retreat. Lee reveals what happened after winning one of Britain’s biggest television shows, how he built multiple seven-figure businesses and why success does not automatically bring happiness or purpose. He also speaks candidly about discipline, fatherhood, fitness and the end of his 26-year relationship. Why did Lee and his former wife keep their separation secret for six months? How did they protect their children? And can a marriage end without divorce becoming a war? The conversation goes deeper into relationships, love languages, daily habits, sleep, recovery and the breathwork technique Lee believes can transform your mind, body and business. Plus, James and Brendan tackle creatine, TRT, speeding fines, Britain’s inability to cope with hot weather and a shocking listener question involving a husband, a prostitute and a suspicious credit-card statement. Honest, hilarious, uncomfortable and completely unfiltered. This is Manopause with James Jordan and Brendan Cole. "Everything Tells Me You Have Prostate Cancer"

IF YOU’RE A MAN OVER 50 AND NEVER WATCH OR LISTEN TO ANOTHER PODCAST, MAKE IT THIS ONE. IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE. Prostate cancer affects one in eight men in the UK, yet in its early stages it often has no symptoms at all. You can feel perfectly well and still be at risk. So what should every man know, when should you speak to your GP and what actually happens when you get checked? In this unmissable Manopause special, Brendan Cole and James Jordan forget the embarrassment and ask the questions men are often too frightened to ask. What are the possible signs of a prostate problem? Who is most at risk? What exactly does a PSA blood test tell you? Does a raised PSA mean cancer? And does getting checked still mean having a finger up the backside? Brendan puts that final question to the test by having a physical prostate examination with consultant urologist Gordon Muir. But did he really need it? The answer could remove one of the biggest fears stopping men from getting checked. James also opens up about his own terrifying prostate cancer scare. After struggling to urinate, waking repeatedly through the night and experiencing worrying sexual symptoms, his normally low PSA level suddenly rose more than fifteenfold. For months, James believed he had cancer. He reveals what the tests eventually found and how severe prostatitis caused his alarming symptoms and raised PSA result. Prostate Cancer UK Specialist Nurse Heather Groake gives clear, straightforward answers about prostate cancer risk, possible symptoms, PSA testing, prostatitis, enlarged prostates, physical examinations, MRI scans and what men should do if they are worried about their health. No embarrassment. No confusing medical jargon. No avoiding the difficult questions. Just the facts men and their families need to know. Studio guest, Al Lukies CBE, Development board Chairman of Prostate Cancer UK, and a genuine business rockstar, explains why men must start talking more openly about their health. He also shares his remarkable personal story of being sent to boarding school at six, suffering loneliness and abuse, leaving school at 16, building the world’s first fintech unicorn and fighting to buy back his family’s farm after it was lost. The conversation then moves into starting again in middle age, the pressure men feel to provide, mortgages, school fees, uncertain income and the private financial anxiety that can overwhelm even outwardly successful people. Al’s powerful advice about stripping away job titles, finding your real strengths and taking control of your next chapter leaves Brendan and James visibly moved. Plus, the boys answer a listener’s question about accessing a PSA test, while Moan of the Week takes on dog mess, “fur babies” and dogs sleeping in the bed. If you are over 50, are Black, have a family history of prostate or breast cancer, have noticed changes when you urinate or simply do not know your risk, do not ignore this episode. Watch it. Listen to it. Share it. Send it to your dad, brother, husband, partner, son or mate. It may be the most important podcast they experience this year. This programme provides general information and awareness, not individual medical advice. If you are concerned about symptoms or your risk, speak to your GP or a qualified healthcare professional. "One Joke Cost Me Everything" Manopause with Brendan Cole & James Jordan with special guest, Wynne Evans.

In Episode 1 of Manopause with Brendan Cole and James Jordan, Wynne Evans reveals why he believes one joke cost him his place on the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour, his radio show, his reputation and very nearly his life. The Welsh opera singer, broadcaster and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant gives his account of the controversies that changed his life and career. Wynne describes making an off-camera joke after a Strictly tour press call using the phrase “spit roast boy”. He says the remark referred to a nickname and a colleague’s pose, but claims it was stripped of its original context and reported as a sexual comment about another member of the cast. He explains how he received an email warning that a newspaper was preparing to publish the story, why he was advised to apologise and how he later discovered through the Daily Express that he had been removed from the tour. Wynne says the BBC subsequently informed him that he was also leaving his radio show. Wynne also discusses the earlier Katya Jones incident, a private birthday prank involving a sex toy and the intense scrutiny he experienced throughout Strictly and the live tour. With a broken ankle and already living with depression, Wynne describes being left alone in a hotel and being told that he could not attend his own birthday celebration while the rest of the tour went ahead without him. He speaks openly about the devastating effect the media coverage and loss of his career had on his mental health, receiving crisis care, psychiatric and ketamine treatment, and surviving repeated suicide attempts. James Jordan and Brendan Cole also share their experiences of Strictly Come Dancing, the pressures of leaving one of Britain’s biggest television programmes, cancel culture, career uncertainty and the challenge of reinventing yourself in middle age. Brendan speaks publicly about being born with hypospadias and the numerous operations he underwent as a child. He explains the physical and emotional impact the condition had on him throughout childhood and into adult life. There are lighter moments too, including James and Brendan visiting students at Canterbury Academy, behind-the-scenes Strictly stories, arguments about school holiday prices, modern chivalry and the first Manopause Moan of the Week. Manopause with Brendan Cole and James Jordan is an honest, funny and sometimes difficult conversation about men’s mental health, midlife crisis, relationships, work, health and the pressures men often keep to themselves.
