Super Wide 25 competition judging

In episode 91 of Matt Loves Cameras we judge the Super Wide 25 film competition!

Matthew Joseph

(Melbourne, Australia)

Hasselblad Xpan with the 30mm.

Alex Luyckx

(Milton, Ontario, Canada)

The Carnegie shot on the Nikon F5 with the 20mm f/2.8D lens on Efke KB100 and developed in 510-Pyro.

The Creek: Shot on a Minolta Maxxum 9 with the 20mm f/2.8 lens using RPX 25 and a Red Filter, developed with Fujifilm Microfine.

Condo Living: Shot on a Mamiya m645 with the 35mm f/3.5 lens, a red filter on Rollei Retro 400s and developed with Fujifilm Super Prodol.

The Bridge - Also the Mamiya m645 and 35mm f/3.5 lens on Kodak TMax 100 rated at ASA-32 and developed in Fujifilm Microfine.

Iain Pretty (Manchester, UK)

This was Sprocket Rocket with some Candido film, developed in lab and scanned at home!

Dave Ackerman (Austin, TX)

Both shot with a Reto Ultrawide + Slim with Ektar 100 in Sept 2025. I like the IH35 shot more. These were scanned at home but commercially developed.

John Roberts (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada)

All three are using the Hasselblad SuperWide C, with HP5+, XP2 Super and Kodak Gold, the image with my kids playing on the rope swing is my favourite of the three, it is a great image of them playing.

Dale Willetts (Walsall, UK)

Disderi Robot 3, Cinestill 800T, Stand developed with Bellini C41 chems.

Ken Tuomi (Seattle, WA USA)

Lomo Sprocket Rocket, Lemay Museum annual car show, Kodak 250D, home processed with FPP ECN-2 developer. I love the individual character of classic cars. Favorite is “Corvair Rampside”, I accidentally found the focus sweet spot, note the rear quarter and logo, that’s sharp for a toy camera. Trivia- Corvair has an air-cooled boxer 6 in the rear and the bed has a built in fold down ramp (see black band).

Eric Vandrick (Elkhart, Indiana, USA)

These were all shot on Ultra Wide and Slim Cameras.

The UltraMax frame made with an early UWS prototype camera sold by the Target Corporations in their E-Gear Series called the “See: Camera”. It has the exact same specs as the classic UWS but used the same body as the new RETO PANO, including the flash.

The Tintype is a self-portrait featuring myself, one of my UWS cameras, and a copy of the UWS zine that I made (Ultra Wide Ineptitude). It was made with collodion poured on a piece of metal from a 35mm film cartridge cut to fit against the UWS film plane. I used one of those giant Speedotron pack and strobes to light it.

The FPP Sun Color (Iso 1) frame was made with a standard UWS camera with it’s shutter paddle removed and then mounted in a Packard pneumatic shutter (allowing for bulb exposures (literally).

The Lomo Turquoise frame was made with a standard UWS camera

Skip Williams (New Jersey, USA)

All of these photos were taken with the Lomo LCA120 on 120 film. Roughly the same FOV as a 21mm lens on 35mm film. The Onions at a local farmers market. The Door was a local, now abandoned greenhouse. The two black and white scenes were taken in Lamberville, NJ, a sleepy little river town. The first of the last vestiges of fall before winter set in.

Sara Snyder (Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA)

Reto Pano Camera. Lab developed. I was so pleasantly surprised by this fun camera!

Wayne Setser (Ten Mile, Tennessee, US)

These were all made using a Noblex Pro 06/150f swing lens panoramic camera that I acquired in late 2022. They were all made on Ilford Delta 400 that I processed in Mytol, a home made version of Xtol, and printed on Ilford Warmtone fiber base paper developed in ID-78. I digitized to prints using a Sony A7 with a Pentax-M 50mm f/4 Macro lens.

Michael Jolliffe (Sydney, Australia)

Xpan 30mm lens, buk rolled Ilford HP5, home developed in a paterson tank with Fomadon P following the Massive Dev apps instructions. Scanned on Epson V800 :)

Kai Augustin (Germany)

All photos taken with my Olympus OM4Ti, which is very much my favourite OM, since it really has all the features you need in a MF SLR. Couple that with my beloved 21mm and it makes for a wonderfully small travel package. The film used is in the file name.

Developed in a lab, but scanned and converted by myself. My favourite shot is probably the one of the old church in Kilkenny, Ireland. It is a rather touristy shot, but the lighting was just right that October evening.

Daniel E Smith (Portland, Oregon, United States)

I took this shot at the tail end of 2025 using a Soviet sling-lens panoramic camera: the KMZ-FT2. It has a 50mm fixed focused, fixed aperture lens, but uses a swinging mechanism to expose a 110mm section of 35mm film, roughly 3 frames. This results in an extremely wide 120 degree field of view with very little image distortion.

I took this photo from a submarine dock looking out across to the downtown waterfront. I used expired vision 3 250D and developed it with a bleach bypass to highlight the muted tones of the early morning winter light.

Shawn Eliason (Philadelphia, PA, USA)

My father was a veteran and is buried at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery. I went to visit him on Memorial Day this past May. I took my trusty Holga WPC pinhole camera, which is 40 mm but 13mm full frame equivalent. My favorite is the picture of my Dad’s tombstone on the right and the others off to the left.

Matt Murray (Brisbane, Australia)

Double exposure taken on the Kodak Snapic A1 on Lucky 200 colour film!

Get full access to Matt Loves Cameras at mattlovescameras.substack.com/subscribe
