Dale Whelehan: If time is money, how do we make more of it?
The saying goes that time is money and money is time, but how does it all add up - and indeed, subtract - when we apply it to our own specific situation?
This week on Money Talks, Katie Byrne is joined by Dale Whelehan, a behavioural scientist and assistant professor at Trinity College Dublin.
His research explores why modern life makes many of us feel like we never have enough time, while his latest project, House of Time, helps perpetually busy people find practical solutions.
How does the ‘time is money’ mindset apply to our finances?
Do we need to cut an entire day from the working week?
And would a ‘time audit’ save us, not just hours, but money as well?

Why is it ‘vulgar’ for a woman to want to be rich?
Women’s wealth expert Laura Tynan is on a lifelong mission.
Having studied finance at University College Cork, she became a chartered accountant and travelled the world, working in the higher end of the financial industry.
But she wasn’t satisfied. Having developed a spiritual and strategic relationship with money, Tynan turned her attention to gender pay disparity, declaring that she doesn’t want to live in a world in which women find themselves on the wrong side of money statistics.
In conversation on the Money Talks podcast, she raises a pertinent question: why should it be considered crude for a woman to want to make a lot of money?
“My mom stayed at home, my dad went out to work, so growing up I saw that dynamic,” she notes. “Nothing wrong with it, but it was just very evident that dad manages the money and mom stays home and takes care of the kids.
“Now, I always knew that I wanted to be rich. And that even sounds vulgar to say, as a woman. But it’s not, right? You have every right to declare you want to be rich. There's nothing dirty about that word.
“I saw my mom not having access to her own funds. I saw her talking to my dad and having to negotiate to even just get money to go to the grocery store. And I thought, ‘I don’t want that for me. I want to have my money. I want to be able to make my own decisions.”
On this week’s episode of Money Talks, Tynan explains how she took up that journey, how she’s going about her goal to make her daughter a millionaire one day, why she dropped her Witch of Wall Street persona, and the inner work people can adopt to move towards a positive money mindset.
