Tom Speight: Against The Odds

In this week’s instalment of "More In The Moni," I sit down with the awesomely inspiring, Tom Speight. My journey with Tom began back in 2005 when we were both aspiring musicians in university. Since then, our friendship has only grown stronger, fuelled by our shared passion for music. Tom's journey in particular is a testament to his unwavering focus and determination.

From the outset, Tom held a clear vision of success in his mind. Despite the daunting challenges of the music industry, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of his dreams. Surrounding himself with talented collaborators and bandmates, Tom understood the importance of social media, of being in the company of great musicians and the 10,000 hours it takes to elevate one’s own craft.

Tom's breakthrough came when Keane recorded one of his EPs, leading to the emergence of his manager and a myriad of opportunities. However, just as his career was gaining momentum, health issues forced Tom to take a two-year hiatus. Yet, far from being deterred, Tom used this time to reflect and refocus his energies. Recognising the role of both luck and perseverance in the industry, Tom admired artists like Ed Sheeran who achieved success through unwavering dedication. Despite setbacks, Tom penned an impressive collection of songs during his hiatus, returning to London with a renewed determination to assemble his dream team.

After a decade of relentless pursuit, Tom's moment arrived in 2016. With Spotify on the rise, he released a song crafted with the collaboration of four producers, a culmination of years of hard work. Against all odds, the song soared to the top of viral playlists in Brazil, garnering attention from esteemed platforms and publications. Tom's personal struggles with Crohn's syndrome further shaped his perspective, reminding him of the preciousness of life and the importance of giving his all to every performance. His near-death experience instilled in him an unwavering determination to pursue what he loved.

Tom's journey is a testament to the power of clear vision and dedication. While talent played a role, it was his relentless work ethic and ability to forge meaningful connections that propelled him forward. Today, Tom's story continues to inspire others with its resilience and unwavering passion.

Don't miss the full interview for a deeper dive into Tom's incredible journey!

https://linktr.ee/yehyehben
