Remembering Jerry Blavat

I grew up in Philadelphia listening to WHAT AM 1340 and disc jockey Jerry Blavat who was know as the "Geator with the Heater" and the "Boss with the Hot Sauce".
Jerry ruled the airwaves on radio and hosted various TV shows for over 60 years.
Little did I know back then that I would grow up to be a DJ and talk show show in the Philly area from 1969 to the present day. In 2011 I was happy to interview Jerry on my radio show about a book he had recently released. Although Jerry passed away in 2023 I am happy to share an encore edition of this program and his thoughts on his radio career, his times growing up in South Philly and the current state of affairs in our country. I hope you will enjoy this walk down memory lane with a true pioneer in top 40 radio who left a mark on his beloved home town of Philadelphia which will endure for year to come.

Where Have All The Protesters Gone?

During the Spring of 2024 we were bombarded with news of huge protests on college campuses coast to coast and even world wide. Although the war in the Middle East continues it seems the protests have come to a halt. Could it be college administrators have signaled to students there would be consequences? Maybe the parents who foot the bills said "Knock it off". Have the media lost interest? Or do the protest organizers dare not rock the boat this close to a presidential election? Not sure. But I thought it would still be relative to look back on protesters in 2024 and the way it was in my day ... the 1960's.
