Podcast Overview

Picture this. Your sleep schedule is so far gone that there's no point in denying it, you're on your third dalgona coffee rush this week, and there's no solution in sight to mitigate both problems. That was me during one lonesome night in quarantine. The cure to this existential bedtime crisis? Movies and television. Escapism is a common method in which we try to alleviate our problems, and visual media is no exception. Join me, Chelsea Macasaet, every Wednesday at 6 p.m. to discuss the aesthetics, sentiments, and perspectives surrounding my favorite films and shows.

Ep. 4 | Slowly Spiraling Into the Sea (The Lighthouse)

SKIP 17:43-27:35 TO AVOID SPOILERS! | This week I decided to talk about "The Lighthouse" (2019) directed by Robert Eggers and starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe. Somehow, I manage to fit in a bit of math and philosophy to discuss the movie's use of mythology and fortune, as well as the difficulties of isolation. I also cover a few of my favorite(????) scenes and I come to some shocking, off-script revelations. | Intro music: "Onion" - prod. by Lukrembo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGQNrzqrGqw) | Follow me on Instagram @movieishpodcast (https://www.instagram.com/movieishpodcast/?hl=en) and visit my website: https://movieishpodcast.carrd.co/ for links to stream episodes. | See you on Friday with a new episode!

Ep. 3 | Society if We Had Ghosts (Ghost in the Shell Analysis)

Skip 27:11-44:40 to avoid SPOILERS | Recently, I've been trying to tap into my repressed anime fan side, and in the process, I came upon "Ghost in the Shell" (1995). Directed by Mamoru Oshii with an original story by Masamune Shirow, its dialogues surrounding humanity, ethics, and the intersectionality of humans and technology were compelling and astounding to watch. In just one hour and 22 minutes, this film made me appreciate the art of animation as a form of storytelling. (I mess up Motoko's name in the video/audio, please forgive me on that!) In the next episode, I'll be covering the horror of "The Lighthouse" as well as the beauty of the modern myth. You can watch "Ghost in the Shell" for free (with ads) on YouTube: https://youtu.be/iHil4Y4r3Wk | Intro music: "Remember" Instrumental by Homage (https://youtu.be/_zZYUrT_iQo) | Follow me on Instagram @movieishpodcast (https://www.instagram.com/movieishpodcast/?hl=en) and visit my website: https://movieishpodcast.carrd.co/. | No copyright infringement intended.

Ep. 2 | The Wackiest of Quests: An Intro to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Today I ditch the script to introduce one of my favorite animes: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's wacky, it's senseless, and it's probably the most impressive feat of animation that I've ever seen. If you want to see "spirit Pokemon", dudes with anatomically questionable muscles, and memes galore, this show is for you. I also discuss why it's important to enjoy what you're a fan of, even if it might be considered "different". SPOILERS are from 21:55-38:07. (Disclaimer: I only talked about the animated parts, not the parts serialized in the manga.) See you next Wednesday with an analysis of Ghost in the Shell! | Intro music: "Remember" Instrumental by Homage (https://youtu.be/_zZYUrT_iQo) | Follow me on Instagram @movieishpodcast (https://www.instagram.com/movieishpodcast/?hl=en) and visit my website: https://movieishpodcast.carrd.co/. | No copyright infringement intended.
