Finally uploading this one after another strong bout of procrastination but hey, at least the audio sounds good this time. The audio is what really matters here because we're covering one of the biggest albums we've done on the show so far and that's Tyler, the Creator's Igor. Igor cemented Tyler as an all around creative force to be reckoned with. Someone who at one point was seen as an edgy internet rapper was now being touted as a generational talent. Winning grammies, selling out tours, getting partnerships, etc. It started to shift with Flower Boy but this album catapulted Tyler into the stratosphere where he's been able to remain since.

The vinyl I have for this album is actually one of the more valuable pieces in my collection. An exclusive standard weight mint green record housed in a standard gatefold package with with some alternate album artwork done by Lewis Rossignol. This version was exclusive to Tyler's merch online merch store for the only 24 hours the day of the album's release and I managed to snag a copy. It sounds great and features a vinyl only track "Boyfriend" which also available on the other pressings.

In the news corner this week we spend most of it talking about Jack and Sharon Osbourne actively trying to profit off the memory of Ozzy in the most ghoulish ways they possibly can, as quickly as they possibly can. We also talk about some of the more insane reactions to Caleb Shomo of Beartooth coming out as gay.

Instagram - @MBFrecordspod

Amanda's IG/TikTok/YouTube - @MothraLuna

Jason's Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/user/FrequencyShift/collection

Theme music by SHADE08 x 80root on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bewQPpTnfgg&list=PPSV

Hosted on Ausha.
Our old friend, echoey audio, rears it's ugly head again on this episode. Not quite as bad as the Childish Gambino but you can't say I didn't warn you. One of these days I'll learn to consistently work a noise gate so this stops happening.

This week we're covering titans of the early 2010's indie pop/rock scene, Sleigh Bells and their sophomore album Reign in Terror. Simultaneously more catchy and clean and pop focused than their debut, Treats, while also being decidedly more guitar focused. We discuss what the music scene was like at the time, as well as how this band was insanely ahead of their time and would end up being one of the influential pillars for what would eventually become hyperpop.

The vinyl I have is the standard release as far as I'm aware. This album came out right around when I started collecting so I bought it near release at a record store, probably Horizon Records or maybe Earshot if they were still around by this point. The jacket is slightly taller than your average record which may be an aesthetic choice or it may be to house the collection of art prints the album came with that I sadly lost over the years. Either way it's a great sounding, 180g black vinyl.

News corner this week is a little all over the place. Bouncing around from MIA getting herself fired from the Kid Cudi tour, to talking about the recent epidemic of shows and tours getting canceled due to low ticket sales, and we even briefly mention the very real and serious feud between Earl Sweatshirt and JPEGMAFIA.

Instagram - @MBFrecordspod

Amanda's IG/TikTok/YouTube - @MothraLuna

Jason's Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/user/FrequencyShift/collection

Theme music by SHADE08 x 80root on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bewQPpTnfgg&list=PPSV

Hosted on Ausha.
Well we did it. we made it to 50 episodes and to celebrate we're covering one of the darlings of underground hip hop. Aesop Rock's 3rd studio album, Labor Days, is one of the more consequential records for backpack rap/nerd rap/underground hip hop/whatever you wanna call it. Aesop Rock really developed his unique, ultra wordy lyrical style and off-kilter, esoteric flow on this album and manage to make a few relative hits in the process with "Daylight" being considered a corner stone of not only his discography but also the genre as a whole to this day.

The version of the vinyl I have is the most standard standard can get. Standard weight dual LPs in standard paper sleeves (which I replaced with poly-lined) housed in a very standard single sleeve jacket. No frills, no bells or whistles, just the album presented as it is. Sounds good though and that's what really matters.

In the news corner this week we mourn the death of the music blog, specifically metal blogs, specifically MetalSucks and Metal Injection, at the hands of their corporate overlords.

Instagram - @MBFrecordspod

Amanda's IG/TikTok/YouTube - @MothraLuna

Jason's Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/user/FrequencyShift/collection

Theme music by SHADE08 x 80root on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bewQPpTnfgg&list=PPSV

Hosted on Ausha.
