Baking Memories

In this episode I talk food and beer with Jake Doherty of Deri Dari, an interactive cooking experience that brings ingredients to your door and loved ones into your kitchen again.

Jake is an American living in Germany for 22 years. Jake Studied History and Philosophy at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta Georgia then returned toLouisiana before moving to Germany. He worked for the American military recreation department in Garmisch-Partenkirchen as a waiter and bartender for three years then opened his own bar and restaurant for three years. He Traveled Italy, Austria, and Switzerland for two years before returning to Garmisch working in tourism before opening his own tour guide service – all things garmisch -for over eleven years. In March of 2020 he watched as all our bookings and reservations were cancelled and all deposits returned. He was forced let staff go, mothball the business, and look for another avenue to put food on the table. It was a life changing moment. He wanted to help others that were in the same traumatic situation and so he went back to his restaurant roots and opened – Deri Dari – an online platform, in the United States, where out of work chefs create and sell interactive live cooking Experiences for purchase that are coupled with ingredient delivery in the U.S. Each course is purchasable by household allowing friends and family to connect with a chef and cook a meal together.

www.deridari.com

My Bright Idea is an interview podcast that celebrates successful small businesses and their owners who have taken the leap to make their ideas and dreams a reality.

www.mybrightideapodcast.com

Facebook - www.facebook.com/groups/mybrightidea

Instagram - My Bright Idea

Twitter - @mybrightideapod

Music by audionautix.com

Aint No Mountain High Enough

In this episode I chat with Trevor Arndt of Aesthetic Climbing Gym in Lake Forest Ca. Trevor shares his inspirational story of how he and his brother built the successful gym despite surrounding skepticism and how they managed to not just keep the vulnerable business afloat during the pandemic, but how through perseverance and community support, the gym remains the only standing family-run climbing gym in Southern California.

Something about climbing changes people; we don’t know how or when it happens, but somewhere between the ascent and summit, every climber feels it. Your hands get clammy, your muscles deaden; it’s just you and the mountain, and one of you is going to lose. In that moment, every climber is posed with a very difficult question. Am I strong enough? Can I do this by myself? The mountain is bigger than I thought, and the summit…so far off.

- Trevor Arndt

Aesthetic Climbing Gym was founded by Trevor Arndt & Dillon Arndt in 2012. Through shared experiences and combined knowledge of construction, the Arndt brothers set out to pursue their dream of opening one of the top climbing facilities in Orange County. It took over 4 years of going to meetings with investors, accountants, marketing specialists, and business gurus for the planning of ACG to get underway. It took 3 months of long days and endless nights for Aesthetic to be fully constructed and doors were finally open on September 2, 2012!! Since then, Trevor Arndt has continually sought ways to expand the facility and keep raising the bar on what should be the ultimate indoor climbing experience. ACG was named the best climbing gym in Orange County in 2014 by the OC Weekly and currently ranks amongst the top gyms in all of Southern California.

www.aestheticclimbinggym.com

My Bright Idea is a weekly interview podcast that celebrates successful small businesses and their owners who have taken the leap to make their ideas and dreams a reality.

www.mybrightideapodcast.com

Facebook - www.facebook.com/groups/mybrightidea

Instagram - My Bright Idea

Twitter - @mybrightideapod

Music by audionautix.com

Think Smart, Drink Smart

In this episode we talk with Chris Kanik about Smart Cups, the world’s first printed beverage, using a patented delivery system technology that allows flavors and active materials be printed on nearly any surface.

Chris Kanik is the CEO and Founder of Smart Cups, a sustainability-driven technology company whose flagship product, an energy drink, hit the market in 2018 as the World's First Printed Beverage. Smart Cups utilizes a patented delivery system technology that allows flavors and active materials be printed on substrate surfaces. These applications can be used in a myriad of industries, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and more, allowing for a reduction in storage and transportation requirements resulting in a reduction of the world’s overall resources. Today, Chris oversees Smart Cups' 23,000 square foot manufacturing and R&D facility in Mission Viejo, CA.

Born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, Kanik’s creative and entrepreneurial spirit can be directly attributed to being the first generation born of immigrant parents. Having experienced first-hand the struggles and inequalities that exist among socio-economic classes, Chris has always been drawn to disrupting the status quo and designing better solutions to systems.

He first entered a lab at age 12 to study the chemical degradation of aspartame in diet sodas over extended storage periods at room temperature. At 14, he joined a research team in the Nutritional Sciences Department at Rutgers University to study adipocyte metabolism in adipocyte fatty acid binding protein (A-FABP) knockout mice (aP2-/-) after short-term high-fat feeding. His work contributed to the discovery of a functional compensation by the keratinocyte-FABP. From there, Chris went on to join a research team working on a NASA-funded project developing biologically based nano-robots at Rutgers in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

www.smartcups.com

My Bright Idea is a weekly interview podcast that celebrates successful small businesses and their owners who have taken the leap to make their ideas and dreams a reality.

www.mybrightideapodcast.com

Facebook - www.facebook.com/groups/mybrightidea

Instagram - My Bright Idea

Twitter - @mybrightideapod

Music by audionautix.com
