A show for the uninitiated layman, hosted by a fellow layman, covering news stories in layman's terms! The show explains issues in layman's terms for the uninitiated listener. This is different from news shows with a panel of experts who report, analyze, or debate because they cater to an audience already abreast on current affairs. My Fellow Laymen is like the for dummies book series, but in a show format, where context is key. My core objective is to make the news more accessible to the average layman and to do away with the stigma of being perceived as a dummy for a lacuna in politics, civics, or history. In my opinion, convoluted subjects are unpopular because, without a real understanding of a subject, there is no driving force to engage or invest. Moreover, even if there was general interest, without prior knowledge of the basics, trying to learn something new can prove to be challenging and off-putting, and so, it’s a vicious cycle. My Fellow Laymen first lays out the core foundation of a topic, then proceeds to cover the story in more detail. I dedicate each episode to presenting an all-inclusive summary of one topic dominating the headlines, in layman's terms, so that it is educational and easy to follow.

Covid-19 : The Beginning of the End

Hey there my fellow laymen! It’s the final episode of the year, and so I’m glad to host this episode with David, the President and Managing Director of World Radio Paris, and discuss the subject which has dominated our lives over this past year, the Rona. I break down the concept of a pandemic and give historical background of the Spanish Flu, I explain the concept of a virus, from what it actually is, to how it functions, how it came to exist, and how it’s changed over the past century. I also simplify interesting concepts like flattening the curve, Battlefield Triage and the basic reproduction number of a disease. I visit December 2019 and recount the story of Dr Lee in Wuhan China, and then study incidents in the USA in order to better understand the notions of crisis management, from preparation, to misinformation and leadership, as well as the various approaches governments took around the world. We brush lightly on the various conspiracy theories that came out about this virus, the toll it’s had on minorities most especially, as well as the economy, and the overall effects it has on our mental health in general. Finally, we get a vaccine 101, what are they, how do they work and how are they created. We list out and explain the various front runners producing these vaccines, and the steps that will follow, from manufacturing and storage, to the Covax global movement and the antivax movement. If you’ve read this far, I’d like to wish you happy holidays and a happy new year. The USA : A Post 2020 Presidential Elections Discussion

On this episode, I relaunch my show after an almost 1-year hiatus with a post US Presidential Elections 2020 Discussion: - I roundup and explain the events of the 4 groundhog days of Election Day. - I explain how projections work. - We hear from a poll worker’s firsthand experience, her motivations behind her application, her thoughts on Trump’s accusations and his transition, her take on the US voting system vs. France’s, and how she as a democrat lives amongst her Trump supporting neighbors in her home state of South Carolina. - I start setting up the context by reviewing why people around the world are so captivated with US politics in general and specifically this year. - Mariam and I play a game of Trivia to review American history. I explain how Indigenous Americans first came to the Americas, the European expeditions and the 13 colonies established by the British, the Boston Tea Party and the American Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the First Amendments, the American Civil War, Slavery and the Civil Rights Act. Sudan 2.0 : Break The Wheel

Sudan : Break the Wheel is my second Sudan episode, and it picks up where my first Sudan episode, Sudan : An Empirical Game of Thrones, left off. On today’s episode, I’m going to explain the June 3rd massacre in detail and its aftermath, the June 30th comeback, the formation of Sudan’s new government, the impact this revolution has had on Sudan politically, socially and economically, plus many other important developments concerning France, Saudi Arabia, the rebels, and I even have a few musical features queued up for you.
